Based simply on what I read in the OP, I side with the woman and I hope she wins both her lawsuits. I suppose this sort of thing has always happened in various settings, but the modern twist is the on-line aspect, the harrassment and public shaming; even worse, how it can affect one's livelihood. And shame on her company for firing her.

I started watching a lawyer’s take on this. He said by US law there’s no expectation of privacy in public places, or in private places not explicitly banning recording. But this is a Brazilian case and they do have stricter privacy laws. But he also noted that her socials have bumped up to millions of followers, promoting her to influencer status which she may be monetizing, so that may work against her in seeking damages. Interesting.

Seems like it would be foolish on her part to "monetize" her new found fame, at least until the cases are settled.

Just a warning: Many of these stories are AI-generated. Just because it's on the internet, or even "viral", doesn't mean that it is real. This may or not be real. But one must be skeptical with all things these days.

^^ Good point, sushipup. I have heard on reputable local news outlets of people getting fired for this and that behavior out in public, so it's at least somewhat plausible. But no doubt the internet is over-run with AI garbage, and it's only getting worse by the day.

If for whatever reason a family isn't booked together, it is certainly fine to ask. But to then expect this person to take a lesser seat way in the back or a middle seat is just not acceptable to me.

Also a good point, eld. I don't think a week goes by that there isn't a story of people's bad behavior on an airplane on the national news so I think those stories at least are true. I sometimes look for other sources when it is just on the internet. I hate AI. Just sayin'

Missed chance to teach your child that he/she can't always get what he/she wants and for the parent to always bring books, etc. to keep the child occupied.

I've seen plenty of stories about people trying to bully someone into switching seats on airplanes, so this is believable. Audacity is the new normal, it seems.

It seems like it has become the norm for someone to have a tantrum on a plane - both kids and adults. There were other people with window seats, did any of them offer to switch? I really hope she manages to get past this.

People can be very strange and entitled!

We had a difficult time when we flew home from France a few years ago. We had to be at the airport at 4am to check in only to find out our flight had been canceled due to weather. For some reason the French American Airlines check-in employees were not permitted to book us on another flight. Instead they told us to call the airlines and re-book ourselves. After a few hours of trying to get through my friend called a travel agent she knew who was able to book us on another flight into Indianapolis with a connecting flight to Philly.

We'd been awake since 1 am and didn't board the flight to Philly until 8pm. We were both exhausted and my girlfriend dozed off while others were boarding. After we left the gate a man 2 rows ahead of me asked if I would switch with him so that he could have my seat which was across from his girlfriend. When I declined he asked again explaining that he wanted to sit near his girlfriend. This time I replied that I wouldn't be comfortable switching seats and leaving my sleeping friend. He then suggested that I wake her and ask if it would be OK. At this point the man in front of me told him to sit down. I felt really uncomfortable because he kept turning around and glaring at me. The best part though is his girlfriend also fell asleep.

I'm glad she wasn't fired but it is a shame that she felt she had to live her job.

We don't know from the article if it was bad behaviour or not. I didn't watch the video....Did she swear and try to hit anyone? Did the mother swear and threaten? Was someone touching her or trying to pull her out of the seat?

Maybe yes, maybe no. There are too many details missing to know - what her job was, what her contract (if any) said, etc.

A search suggests that just under 3 million people take plane flights EVERY DAY in the US. Pick some other location or situation with that many people involved. Do you think it possible that odd, undesirable, or wrong things might happen from time to time in any of them?

I do think these incidents may represent a larger issue - people obnoxiously and unreasonably demanding things from others and refusing to take 'no' for an answer. Most people are courteous and kind, IMO, but it does seem that more people now than in the past are not.

I think the bigger issue is people who record confrontations for public consumption and for hearing in the court of public opinion. Now things that might have stayed small become major issues, with people getting harassed and even threatened.

I always marvel at reading about these outlandish airline flights. I have never witnessed one thing out of the ordinary in flights...I'm sure they happen at times, but I'm lucky I guess. Never seen anyone to HAVE the need to record anything.

OJ, Seri just told me that there are 64 million flights each year. So chances are good that you wouldn't see someone acting a fool. People do just seem to have no boundaries anymore and think every single thing is fair game - even without permission. These people don't think the rules pertain to them,.

I think it's the opposite. Take a random sampling of the population, put them in a confined and uncomfortable space where there's lots to complain about, add in the fact that many board planes having had too much to drink, and anything can and does happen. A situation that fosters conduct of people at their worst.

That's been my experience.

I agree that "most" people try to be considerate but some don't. My last unfortunate experience was sitting across the aisle from a person who spent most of the 5 hour flight coughing and hacking. And not wearing a mask as I was and most others were. I offered him a packaged, unused N-95 that I had and he said that it wasn't necessary. Three days later, I started feeling ill and tested positive for Covid and had a miserable week.
