I’m sure it’s a good name where it originated, just as ”Lipschitz” no doubt is in Germany. But if I had a family name which would be the butt (sorry 😁) of jokes in my adopted country, I’d probably change it. But(t) even if I didn’t, I sure wouldn’t name my business that and put it on a sign in letters two feet high.

I dunno. People all over the world are talking about it already. It's been awhile since I hung out with young Aussies, but I remember them as being open minded and quick to laugh. Has that changed? Don't you think they'd say, hey, let's try Butt and make some rude jokes and go try it? And if they liked the food, come back? Perhaps, for the owners, putting their doesn't tranlate well but honorable name in two foot letters is just what they need to get people to come in....

When I was working in financial services I stumbed across a client with that last name. First name Justin. I’d imagine thst was a rough childhood.

I think they misspelled Bhut (Jolokia) which is the first word of a common Indian superhot chilli also known as the dreaded ghost pepper.

So, there was this famous restaurant whose name meant something flower related in certain Chinese dialects. It was a popular place for around 100 years. Its fame spread much farther than its Potland OR home. Hung Far Low. Apparently their sign is a protected historical thing. I don't know if they ever did merch after, but many guys I knew, when I was in college, carried their their matchbooks in their pockets. As an amulet, perhaps?

It’s highly unlikely that pork of any kind is on the menu, as people from Karahi are almost exclusively Muslim. Actually, Chicken (like in the illustration) Karahi is a fairly well known dish.
