Today is DH and my anniversary. 45 years. We were high school sweethearts. I was 15 he was 16. How have so many years gone by so fast?

chloebud, my first brand new car was a 1971 yellow Volkswagen beetle! It cost $1975 and my dad had to co-sign the loan. The payment was $50/month and he was concerned about my being able to make the payments. I was working full time and had no problem but then my dad was coming from a place of having a house payment of $60 month so it seemed like a lot of money to him at the time. Such a fun time to be young.

murraysmom, mine was a brand new ’72! Sticker price was $1,999…$800 down and $55.51/month payments. Can’t remember for sure but I have a memory of a high interest of maybe 21%...? Funny story…I got my one and only ticket driving the car home from the dealership. I was still a little nervous about driving a stick shift and turned left on a yellow light. I was afraid the car would stall out if I stopped. Unfortunately, I made the turn with a cop coming in the opposite direction.🥴 He wrote the ticket while I cried.🙄 That ticket was a whole $15!

chloebud, we could be twins!!! I couldn't even drive a stick when I ordered my yellow bug. They had green in stock but I had my heart set on yellow. My neighbor taught me on his own bug while I was waiting for mine. He probably regretted that. LOL Anyhow, the day came and my dad took me to the dealership and dropped me off. The stick shift was stiff since it was so new and I had trouble shifting on the way home. I finally pulled over and just started crying. LOL Hilarious!! Good thing you didn't have an accident. That would have taken some serious crying.

So we BOTH cried driving home!🤣 I loved that little yellow bug. I actually kept it a long time. My husband wanted to hold on to it. It sat in our garage and he would occasionally drive it. We sold it around 2011 to a guy who really fixed it up to look brand new. He lived in our area and we’d see him driving it occasionally. Made me a lttle sad.

Awww that is bittersweet. I had mine for 11 years. And in 1982 I sold it for what I paid for it new! I lived in San Francisco then and it was really sought after. Only 1 door opened by then. I had had it reupholstered and it was so sweet!!! The original interior was tan and I had it changed to black, orange and yellow pinstripe with butterscotch vinyl. I think I would have been sad as well if I saw it around the city but I never did.

So funny about the crying.
