3 hour drive west of NYC and we had very little snow and no wind.

We got it here in Massachusetts. Howling winds and +/- 20 inches of snow. Power stayed on for us, tho not for others. I remember similar storms in my childhood, and of course the infamous Blizzard of 1978. All cozy here, thankfully, with plenty of books from the library (23 of 'em, lol), so I'm all set.

I'm also in Massachusetts, we had 15" and the power thankfully stayed on. We had a business trip planned leaving today, but our flight has been changed to tomorrow. Apparently they need time to get all the planes to where they are supposed to be since everything was grounded.

Another Massachusetts resident here. My power stayed on too, miraculously. Annpan, losing power in a blizzard isn't just annoying, it is life-threatening, especially when it stretches into days of no heat. Nonetheless, I couldn't concentrate on any projects, like my taxes which I'm near completing. The howling wind sounds like a pack of ravening wolves. The sun is shining this morning but it's still bitter cold.

Hard to tell how much we got as we still had a heavy snow pack from the last few storms.

I’m in north Florida. We’ve had several days of strong wind, which sounds very similar to a hurricane! No snow, but the temperature when I got up today was 26 f. During the last week we had rain and warmer temps and the grass was greening up nicely. Due to frost today, it will have to start all over.

Ginny, we mostly lose power because someone has driven into a pole! As I am in an area with a large number of retirement homes. we get priority for maintenance but it can still last for up to six hours. I do have a stove with gas burners so I can make hot food and drinks in the meantime. I find big fat candles a help and keep them on hand if we lose power in the evening.

Luckily we do not have long delays or blizzards!

I'm glad your area gets priority, Annpan. You deserve it! I do have battery-powered lanterns and radios--but no such thing as battery-powered heat, alas.

We have a hot day tomorrow, around the mid-nineties. It is gone 3am and I have a breeze cooling me but also bringing a faint burned wood smell from a natural fire blowing in from the country. One of the disadvantages of a country with great expanses of trees and shrubs. It does not take much to set areas alight.

I did buy a lantern but keep forgetting to charge it. Luckily we do not have many power cuts.

The last time I was walking in snow back in England in 2002, I was taking the dog for a run, slipped, fell badly and was covered in bruises. It was yet another reason to go back to Australia although the transposed dog hated walking in the heat!

From the number of folk here in Massachusetts, I say we need a get-together sometime, if the snow ever melts! Bonus points if you are a gardener as well as an avid reader!!

Forgot to mention that we have a whole-house generator, AND a dual fuel range. Got both after the horrendous ice storm 10 (+/-) years ago; no power for 7 days but at least I could have hot food & drink. Able to read with candlelight and survived with many, many layers of Polartec fleece including a hat. On the eighth day, a crew from Pennsylvania was on my street and got things back to normal. Blessings upon them!

Ann, we are in a drought and fire hazard is high. There have been brush fires in other areas of the state but fortunately none near us so far.

We also have a whole-house generator. When we were planning the house I argued against the expense of it. A month after moving in we had a huge thunderstorm and power was out for 8 hours. I had to concede to my husband and sister that they were right about spending the money for the generator!
