Sad news. Such an amazing actor. DH and I were just talking about him yesterday. I think my first memory of him was Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird.

I loved him in The Great Santini.

Great actor with so many great movie roles. He didn't seem like the Frank Burns type but he played it well in the M.A.S.H movie. I liked him paired with Tommy Lee Jones in the Lonesome Dove series. It's hard to believe he's been acting since before I was born.

All the good ones are dying. He was a wonderful actor.

Loved everything he ever did. I think I learned to really like him with Secondhand Lions. He plays a good no-nonsense curmudgeon

Secondhand Lions is one of my all time favorite movies. I have not been a big Robert Duvall fan per se, but I really appreciate his varied characters and what he brings to a role. He will be missed. This came as a surprise.

I was watching old Alfred Hitchcock episodes and spotted him, about the same time as To Kill a Mockingbird. He was amazing even then.

I didn’t realize To Kill a Mockingbird was his first film at age 31. He was impressive considering he had no dialogue. I also adored Gregory Peck as Atticus. Amazing movie.

Excellent actor - his work lives on, for sure. Glad he had a long life.

And we recently watched every episode of The Outer Limits - he was in several of those.

He was blessed with a good long life and a very successful career. He was great in Secondhand Lions and in Open Range with Kevin Costner. God bless his soul.

Sorry to hear this. He was so good in so many roles. All the ones mentioned, but I'll add The Godfather. And to this day, we still repeat his line from Apocalypse Now: "I love the smell of naplam in the morning."

He was such a versatile actor. I rewatched the seventies Invasion of the Body Snatchers recently, and had forgotten he had a cameo.

Colbert had a segment on him tonight. It was a fairly recent interview, and Stephen was a huge fan. I'm glad he had a long life, and he seemed very "with it" in the interview.
