wall oven, warming drawer, toaster oven... vs dbl wall
Comments (9)This topic has kept me up at nights. Like you, I hate using a big oven when a smaller one will do. So, I have decided on a speed oven--likely Miele, although GE and Electrolux makes them also--which is a microwave, convection oven, and I think/hope it toasts as well. They are a little less than a half-oven. I would go for the wall oven, warming drawer, and toaster oven/speed oven for you, and skip the double ovens. I think double ovens are great if you bake in large quantities where the food needs to be precisely cooked at different temperatures, but for meats and potatoes and such, the temperature differential is not really a big deal. It is easy to reduce/increase both the temperature and time and still have everything come out fine. A warming drawer is fantastic. Remember, with a convection oven, things cook faster, so for that occasional large meal, it is easy to cook many things and as they finish, put them in the warming drawer while you go onto the next item. Also, with 6 people in your house, you will have kids coming and going at all hours of the day. Rather than say, "Honey, let me heat up dinner for you," you can relax on the couch with a glass of wine and say, "Honey, your dinner is in the warming oven."...See Morereplace MW & toaster oven with advantium or speed oven?
Comments (25)Thanks, pillog. The dimensions and storage suggestions are extremely helpful. As for the 27" vs. 30", I'd love to have a 30" but the problem is how to fit one in. I'm working around various obstacles (e.g., a chimney) and fixed features (e.g., unmovable doors and some unmovable walls) that limit what we can do with the space. On the other hand, I hadn't thought about what would happen if the 27" ovens die and replacements can't be found. The current ovens are decades old and still work fine, but I guess that's not likely to repeat itself, given the life expectancy of current appliances. It may be time to look at those plans again and see if there's a way to steal 3 inches......See More6 Slice ToasterOven w/Stainless Steel crumb catcher/Enamel bake p
Comments (4)The Krups toaster ovens are the best on the market IMHO. I am linking below to their simplest model, #FBC2. Krups makes two other models which have more complicated preset functions, which it sounds like you wouldn't want. The FBC2 has the stainless steel crumb tray you want. I don't know about the "enamel bake pan" you've specified--not sure what that is. But the Krups FBC2 comes with a non-stick bake pan, broil tray and thermal resistant tongs. Comments (13)We just have a toaster oven, and it took forever to find a new one that would toast bread as well as the old GE one we were getting rid of (it caught fire periodically so hard to justify keeping much longer!) We have the compact Breville and it does the job, but I don't think it's quite as good as a toaster would be. Still, it's FAR better than the others we tested--Philips, Cuisinart, Krups, and Hampton Beach. A lot of them dried the toast out because of the way the heating elements work on the toast cycle...the Breville doesn't do this, but also doesn't toast the two sides exactly the same for some reason (so one side will be more lightly browned than the other). It does have a bagel setting that I haven't played with much. Since we use our toaster oven for cooking frequently, it was definitely staying, and we don't have enough counter space to justify having a separate toaster too. If you do and you eat toast regularly (we really just eat it on weekends) it might be worth the space, especially since you already own it....See More- 9 months ago
