What's your GW name mean?
Comments (59)Well, mine is not garden related. "Sister" became a nickname when I started playing rugby on my sister's rugby team after college. A woman named Donna on the team couldn't remember anyone's name, so I became "Sister" and it really stuck. A few years later, at a wedding, someone was telling Donna about a really nice lawyer she'd met -- when Donna asked who it was, the woman replied "I can't remember her name, but I know it was Sister's sister!" To this day, if I call anyone from my old team, I have to use my nickname, as no one would know my first name. The "k" in sister_k is for my first name, which is Kristin....See MoreLED users: advice from your experience
Comments (41)I've only been using LED downlights for about 9 months, but my oldest lamps, BR40s made by Lighting Science (both their Definity brand at 3000k and the Home Depot Ecosmart at 2700k) are going strong. Our au pair never turns out the lights, even on a bright sunny day, so these have been on for at least 16 hours a day (full blast for 8 or more hours a day, dimmed at night). Almost as old are two Phillips Airflux BR30s in 2700k and 5000k, and a Lighting Science Definity BR30 (GP30) at 4000k. The reason I went with LED in the first place because (1) we were going through halogens left-and-right (lights left on all day), (2) LEDs are dimmable, and (3) the halogens left on all day really warmed up the kitchen and family room. Right now I'm experimenting with Feit/Utlitech 22-watt (1350 lumen) BR40s in the basement. The previous owner had installed 65watt Br30s in the 6-inch cans, it was like a dungeon down there. As each bulb burns out, I'm replacing it with LEDS (also, the au pair never turns out the lights in the basement). They are WAY bright and dim well, but I've only had them for a month. One thing I have learned is that I definitely prefer 3000k over 2700k (2700k is too dingy), and 4000k over 5000k (5000k is too blue, and 4000k seems to be just right). So far, only Lighting Science seems to make bulbs in those colors. I did try a CREE CR6 (it didn't fit my cans), but I was unimpressed with the brightness and color....See MoreUser Names?
Comments (150)Rhome...I always thought VW's name was whippy chick as well and until you explained your name several years ago I though it was pronounced Rome. Plllog...Your name has always thrown me. I thought it was lowercase l's until the other day someone wrote it as ones and then I thought I had been wrong all of these years. I still for the life of me have no idea what it means a post awhile back led me to believe it had something to do with technology. I have always thought lukkirish was lurk ish. Most of us must have eyes that play tricks on us. In fact, I generally do not read the liturgy at church or sing out loud b/c I always have the letters and/or words completely turned around. By the end, I am sure people question my ability to read!...See MoreWhat does your screen name mean?
Comments (112)When I first got an e-mail account I wanted my name to be part of a rose, since I'm a major rose nut. The only rosy word I could find was petaloid, which is a partially formed petal often found in the center of a rose bloom. I used the same name here on GW. Minnie, a rose hybridizer has a secretary named Gladys and he named a rose variety he bred after her, "Happy Butt" -- you should get one! I'll put a link below: Here is a link that might be useful: rose named Happy Butt...See More- 3 months agolast modified: 3 months agoElmer J Fudd thanked morz8 - Washington Coast
