My name of course. One of my reasons for participating in the forum was to meet other gardeners and hopefully form friendships. To that end I felt being straightforward about my name and location would really assist in that process. Plus it makes my life easier. So there it is.

I adopted this name shortly after we got out first computer, as we had just come back to the states from living in Germany. We lived in an apartment, no garden then, but there were some wild violets outside. Veilchen = violet in German.

I have used it since then, even though I no longer care for violets due to their invasive nature in my client's garden. Despite my namesake, you will find me ripping out any violets that pop up in my garden.

I chose my user name because it is descriptive in two ways--I am a fool FOR roses and also a fool ABOUT roses (i.e. foolish, some might say). Rosefool.

Mine was chosen because elk, my nickname (my last name being Elkerton) was taken. I also had the mistaken belief that my two daughters and wife would become rosaholics or at least somewhat interested in gardening, though they have been known to smell some flowers. Instead, they tolerate my addiction.

ANNECECELIA, Guess what, that is my confirmation name also. I chose it because I was so terrified of a num at the convent school I went to and her name was Mother Cecilia. I thought she would be quite proud of me if I chose her name and not be so cruel to me thereafter. It did not work. :) and I never used it again. Also had an aunt with the name, but she was nice - so I do not hold it against you, heehee!!

MADCITY MIKE and CARLA, The Moodies are still going strong and do many tours in north America as well as Europe. They have quite a gathering of followers who physically follow them from State to State, Province to Province, Country to Country. I do not mean all at once, but they pick there times and holidays to be able to do this. They also have a younger following. Justin Haywood's website below! :)

I wanted a user name that was some part of a rose. I tried many but found they were already taken.

I had learned the word "petaloid" in rose competitions, where exhibitors often remove damaged, mis-shapen or half-formed petals ("petaloids") before entering a rose to be judged. (This is not true in the UK, by the way, where they leave them on.)

Petaloid was not taken, and that's my GW name now -- just so you'll know I'm not perfect!

I think I have been here so long that I am seriously old guard as I signed up immediately when asked to after several years and I just typed in my name. I didn't even try to come up with anything clever. There are enough Jeans on the forum now that I usually referred to as Jean from TN.

I don't remember how this one came about it was awhile ago. but If I could change it I would change it to
Lovin' Lizzy Lane. The name of our Farm, Lizzy Lane. The farm, then owned by Lizzy Lane, was one of the first in our town back in 1700 something, when we bought the property there was nothing here but old rock cellar holes and quietness. We have built and built and built, and have lots more to do.... I love the farm, my stay at home job, ALL the animals here, my family, and MY LIFE! So I guess the name still fits. This is a place that is always full of friends, family and good times, never a dull moment.

I go by LizaLily but that was because I got so messed up trying to create a user name and they started telling me my Email name of LilyMoLady was taken (right, By ME!) So finally just came up with this, because I love lilies,my last name is Morrison, hence the "Mo" and Lady because it makes a nice rythem with LilyMo. Well, since that did not work here, I used my middle name of Elizabeth to go with Lily, but used the form Liza for short. No one knows me as Liza except on Gardenweb. My name is really "Naomi". It is all so compicated so I just answer to almost anything, LOL. But at least I can remember this one to sign in with.

Many, many moons ago my group of friends were talking about nicknames and I complained that I'd never had one. (Mother disliked nicknames and none of us ever had them.) So soon after that one of my dearest friends started calling me seil (it's pronounced like seal, BTW). I don't know where he came up with it but it stuck and I've used it ever since. I picked the spelling myself when I started to use it to sign some of my artwork and photographs. Later when I got online I Googled it and discovered there is an island off the coast of Scotland with the name with my spelling. It's known for it's Roman built bridge that is still in use today. I also use it for everything. I have way too many more important things to remember than what my name is where (like where DID I put my keys, glasses, book...etc.?). Besides that I think my brain is running out of RAM...or is it ROM?

Hardin is my last name. Married my hubby almost 2 years ago, and very glad I did. Mushy, yea, but you know.....He's great. Cooks too while I garden. :)

When I first met my husband, we got into a long discussion about English classes (he was an English major, I was a journalism major -- yes, we are big word geeks). He told me in high school, he had been assigned to "analyze a poem by a modern poet," he picked Springsteen's "Jungleland" and wrote a thoughtful analysis, but was failed on the assignment because the teacher didn't consider Broooooce a poet. I told him he should have gone to my college, where "Born to Run" was included in the poetry curriculum.

Anyway, "Jungleland" is still one of his favorite songs to blast, and when I was casting around for a username that sounded gardenish, and the lyrics about the "barefoot girl" in the song came to mind.

Of course I never go barefoot in my yard, between the rose trimmings and the dog's business!

So boring am I.
And my previous name here ( which might have been Ann in TN) is lost in the ether thanks to a lightening strike .... never create a unique password .... it will be lost forever.

Plain old 'Lori' was taken, so I appended a nickname that Jon of Wessex had given me due to my short stature and a play on the last three letters of an old email id I used to have.

When I was a little girl my uncle wrote me a poem - Karen I'm karen for you! So Karenforroses was a natural. I used to be Karen4roses, but for some reason the forum kicked out that spelling one day, so it's all letters now.

Barefoot Girl, I do not go barefoot any longer in my garden either. I used to love being barefoot in the grass, but stupidly twice on two consecutive years was stung by a honeybee around the clover in the lawn. Never known such excrutiating shock pain, I keeled over both times and just about passed out. Crikey, I have had much worst injuries, but there was something about this - probably because the feet havr a lot of nerve ends and I could not take it! WIMP that I am! heehee!

Oh, Pauline and Barefoot, me either. I always used to run around barefoot, but one sting on the bottom of my foot put an end to a lifetime of bare feet outside.

As other users, I use the name of one of my favoritist dogs (well he certainly was the best looking anyway, being a husky mix).

My user name came about quite naturally.....my name is Celeste, and my husband had gifted me with 4 bushes of the lovely old alba rose "Celeste", also known as "Celestial".
He was looking for a special gift to give me and in doing his homework, came upon the idea to get me a rose with my name. Little did he know back then that he gave me the best gift of all....a passion for roses so deep and enduring that 4 rosebushes have now turned into well over 350, with 50 more on the way and l00 little seedlings under the grow lights. Of all the things DH has given me, nothing comes close to the gift of my 4 Celestials, because it was a gift of rose passion.

You'll never guess...nope, I don't live in Seattle, but who would ever have heard of Renton, WA? And RentonSuze just doesn't have the same kick. So y'all know approximately where I'm coming from and I just like Suze as a nickname, although nobody in my life calls me Suze anymore. I was born on Rosalia and tried for that as a screen name but it was taken by someone else, so I'm just plain old ordinary SeattleSuze.

I live out in the boondocks near Glassy Mountain in upstate SC. I've milked cows, gathered eggs, etc, etc although I only garden now. I'll always be a countrygirl no matter where I live, but I've lived in the same place since 1963! And I still love the Moody Blues - part of the over 55 crowd!

In the "old days", when GW first started (I first posted in 1996, I think), we did not have to register. I used a simple name which was my first name. Unfortunately, it was one of those ambiguous name that was constantly mistaken for the wrong gender - a lady's name. So when Spike said we must register, I decided on a new name which nobody will ever confuse with the "wrong" sex! Cactus Joe is surprisingly ubiquitous - it's used for a chain of bar-restaurants, a nursery, a rock singer and songwriter, a children's book character, etc. And a multitude of people who use it as their E-names.

The advantage is that I don't see any need to explain myself! But let it be known that I am not a cactus collector.

h is for the initial of my first name - Hope. My last name is Summerhill, so I just shortened my user name to include the summer portion of it.

Alameda is the name of my horse farm. I used it first when I bred/showed Arabians for 35 years, now have been raising Miniature horses for 22 years. It means sea of woods in spanish.....the 3 farms I have had were all surrounded by woods. I name my horses with my farm prefix preceeding their names, as in AF ........

I've been using my first and middle names for something like 14 years. I found it's easiest to just be me and helps people remember who I am better. Maybe I'm getting old but I have a hard time keeping the association between user name and real name straight. I do dog rescue and people need to be able to remember who I am.

As for the comment about not hiding that is very true. They just did a study recently and found that if people felt they could hide behind a username they were more outspoken if not downright cruel than if they used their own name. It doesn't happen here, but I see it in far too many other forums. This forum is like a garden -- a safe haven where names show interests and loves and are not cloaks of anonymity.

So many of you have pretty names its easy to see where your love lies. :)

This was the first forum I ever registered for, and I was a bit dubious about revealing too much info. about myself (who knows who lurks in garden forums, after all!). I seem to remember that one of the suggestions was to use the name of your favorite rose--which sounded appropriately anonymous to me. However, my first three choices were already taken. So I picked Dublin Bay which I had just bought and had high hopes for. And it has been a very nice climber, I might add.
