I picked up two rolls of Bermuda 419 sod today!
Comments (57)quirky, don't lose faith yet. About 1/8th of my current lawn was common bermuda grass 2 years ago that spread from my neighbor's lawn. It's all bluegrass today, and since the roundup attack of 2 years ago, not one bermuda has returned. The lawn was sprayed by a Landscaping company, then after it died, I completely destroyed the roots system with a roto tiller. I wish I would have taken pictures of it them, because I know that seeing is believing. Having said that, I constantly have to patrol the areas adjacent to my neighbor's bermuda lawn. To matters worst, my neighbor is the type of guy that will let his bermuda grow to about 4 inches tall, seeds out like son of gun because it's a commong type, then chops it down to an inch leaving bermuda sticks and dirt. Then a couple of weeks later the cycle repeats. I have a plan, next spring when the bermuda starts to come out of dormancy, I'm going to spray Turflon at night to make sure stays a sleep a little longer:-)...See MorePennies from heaven (revisited)
Comments (8)When I get home from work tonight I want to check the dates on mine. Not only did I find pennies everywhere I also started finding dimes. I was careful to keep them separate from my other money in my change purse; it finally got to be too much to carry there so I'm keeping those coins in a pretty tin that I bought at a yard sale the morning before Bob died. The most strange thing was this: When I was switching out my winter clothes for my summer clothes earlier this year I had carried about 20 items upstairs - they were on hangers in the basement closet. I laid them on my bed and went through them one by one so I could eliminate what didn't fit, I didn't like, etc. When I got about halfway through the stack there was a dime. It was laying on a sweater! OK, maybe I was holding the clothes up against me and the pressure kept it from dropping out. BUT - if that was the case how did it stay there while they were hanging in the closet downstairs? And I had already been finding dimes instead of pennies for a few weeks at that time. No doubt in my mind where it came from....See MoreBlue penny round backsplash
Comments (20)I love Fireclay Tile. It's all handmade and the glazes are gorgeous. Samples are five for $5 with additional samples for $2 a piece. Their Foundations line is $15/SF for 3" X 6" subways and several other sizes. Both Moonshine and Nickel have blue tones, and are very pretty. They have some incredibly beautiful blues, in fact, after the neutrals I think blue glazes are their greatest strength. These vary in price by glaze. You like the bolder blues, which is great! I would sample Martinique and Mayan Blue for sure, but you might want to check out their web site, and consider less saturated colors and greyer blues as well. one of the grey blues I love with a passion is called Nautical. It's over budget at $28/SF. Here it is installed. And here is Loch Ness installed ove a counter similar to yours. A little dark, but very pretty....See MoreCould anyone share any thoughts about this vintage dresser I picked up
Comments (23)Use a tooth brush and a good stripper. Don't go for a "safe" stripper....go for one that does the job so you don't have to sand lead paint. And never EVER use a belt sander on anything unless you are VERY V*E*R*Y experienced.....I have seen people who work wood for a living make a mess with a belt sander. And yes, lead is a real issue but the world is full of people like me who has stripped many many items and never worried about what kind of paint, who grew up in a house painted with white lead paint....and helped her father paint the fence with that same white lead, lived in a major metropolitan area where the air was full of the fumes from leaded gas. Grew up always letting the water run until it was cold because the house had lead soldered pipes.....and I don't let have brain damage nor kidney damage and the only time I have been anemic was a week after my first child was born. Not to Pooh-pooh the dangers of lead but unless your children are eating paint chips from the window sill and forgetting to let the water run through the lead soldered pipes, I don't think casual exposure is a big concern. But....Don't sand off the paint!! use a stripper! LOL1...See More- 5 months ago
