What about kidney stones? Try to hydrate an extra special amount since that can't hurt anything (and it helps someone who is forming stones. Reduces the formation and passes little ones).

Is it spasm like? Could be a floating rib.

There are exercises one can do to relieve that pain if that is what it is, plus those disposable heat pads can help relieve it temporarily. I had it once doing something stupid…using a rake on a slope and paid for it later. However my discomfort went away after about a week of OTC pain relievers, the heat pads (I think i used the generic ones from CVS or Walgreens) and stretches twice a day.

Kidneys are usually located closer to the back bone than your pain. It is a common area for pulled muscles though. You can do that without even knowing. Since you have been to the doctor which I am not I can still say have you tried heat? It is a point of interest that you could have injured something on the other side and are experiencing discomfort on the opposite side. Something to do with balanced muscles. I had that once.

Diverticulitis/osis? I had pain there once and thought it was kidney stones, which I have had a few times. I got a CT scan and learned it was mild diverticulitis. If you haven't had any imaging done, I would ask your doctor for it. A quick look could be very helpful.

Since CT scan and the blood work are good and you’ve had pain since January I’d rule out kidney stones and infection. Some other possibilities I’d ask the doc to check for if they weren’t addressed: endometriosis, and uterine fibroids which are better detected by ultrasound and MRI.

I had a similar pain, more to my side, which turned out after more than a year of tests (and a chance diagnosis of Hodgkin's lymphoma discovered by the tests) to be nerve damage in my spine. Now I sleep propped up on a wedge pillow and it rarely bothers me.

this could very well be the right side QL muscle. i dealt with debilitating pain in that very spot for over a year. numerous trigger point injections with steroids and botox did nothing to relieve the pain. pain management doctor finally gave me a script for oxycodone. it was the only thing that dulled the pain enough so i could function. hated taking it! finally decided to try acupuncture and it has saved my life. i go every 6 weeks now for a treatment to keep the pain in check. it has been downright miraculous!

Did you get a new chair in January? Sometimes sitting in a slightly different position can cause muscle pain. I second Ninapearl's suggestion of accupuncture.

The trick though is finding a good acupunturist.
