"Clock it!"....what is it.....I'll tell you....

"Clock it" is a slang phrase, primarily used by younger generations, that means to acknowledge or call out something, often a hidden truth, a subtle jab, or an unspoken reality. It can be used playfully or with a hint of sass, and is often accompanied by a finger gesture mimicking the ticking of a clock.

Gesture: They touch the middle finger or index finger to their thumb.

That was in my feed today as well - I'm always interested, since I'm with kids in my job.

The elementary kids use 'slay' a lot - the way we used 'cool' back in the day, i.e. 'that's so slay.'

There's also 'crash out' for having a figurative or real meltdown/becoming enraged, i.e. 'If I don't win this level, I'm gonna crash out.'

Not sure if others already know these or not...

Hi Julie...someone gave me my first 4 o'clock seeds because I said that I couldn't grow anything. Well, I can grow 4 o'clocks! and they DO grow like weeds - everywhere, as Mauricio says, however I just love them! They're perfect additions to 'night gardens'...they literally do begin to open at around 4 (okay..maybe 5 or 6!) o'clock and smell SO nice! I've been pulling them up ever since the first year..have plenty of seeds that I could send you, or, if you'd like to come here, I'd be more than happy to dig up little plants for you. I'm in Brevard...might even have a few other things you would like, too...I'm getting ready to redo flower beds and also want to start a bunch of things, just in case I ever get to go to a swap.

Decorating, like life, is a journey not a destination. So IMO one should just enjoy the process and not be concerned about finishing. I think if you like that painting you should find a better place to hang it and keep it. One doesn't have to "adore" everything one has, it can be a lesser "love" in a lesser place in your home. It's still decor and IMO is an OK painting. "I would only get a not well known artist's work for my home, still now sure how I feel about this...any thoughts?" There is no way I can afford an original Monet or any other well-known famous artist's work I love. And since I much prefer original art I only buy "not well known" artist's works. I do only buy what I feel I don't want to live without. What I do is haunt small galleries and when I see something I like I leave. If I am very concerned it will sell before I return to the gallery I know I need to buy it and I often rush back and am very relieved it is still there. The ones that have sold I still remember and am sorry I didn't buy them but I know there will always be more in the future that I will love. I personally think one should have a few minor regrets in life! Makes it more interesting. I am always amazed that people think original art is expensive. I've paid between $75. and $1500 for original oil paintings and less for original water colors. Framing is often a big expense but I've bought nice frames at yard sales for only a few dollars and I like the look of unframed oils so don't frame all of them. I also have lots of original oils and watercolors from yard sales and have never paid more than $20. for a framed piece. Some were only $1 or $2 and very nice works. Searching for art one loves is a wonderful hobby so enjoy finding what really makes your heart beat faster! :)

Donnakay, I've been reading that analog watches are actually back in style with younger folks, as a fashion statement (maybe not high school kids yet, but with younger professionals). It's the only mechanical thing in their lives and is therefore "retro" cool. Swatch reported its sales of analog watches was up this year as well. So maybe they're all relearning how to tell time! Thanks everyone....I was beginning to think the removed parts might be worthless. Lot's of gears.....maybe a quizative little mind might want to play with them...LOL I thought if they did have value, it would be best to have them removed by someone who knows how to do it. I live in a very rural area, so not much chance of finding a local repairman or shop. grandmaof3.....I also have a beautiful Howard Miller Grandfather clock and love the chimes. I purchased this Ridgeway for the purpose to make a cabinet. It has a very unique rounded corner base. I had never seen one like it and fell in love. But then the clock face was so beautiful....I decided to keep the upper clock also. It is a really large Grandfather clock!!! Thanks again!!

To clock something has been around a long time. As in " I didn't clock it" ie I didn't notice. Or "did you clock that" ie did you see it? But I've not seen the hand gesture.

Could be, maybe just on your side of the ocean? I've never heard it in the US

I never heard much slang from my own kids and haven't heard any from my grandkids. Sometimes it's necessary for parents to have a quick talk with their kids to point out that words and phrases they use with their friends may not always be appropriate to use with adult family members and/or with adults in general.

”In my day”, ”clock” meant to hit in the head, knock your lights out, punch. The current meaning makes sense, like you are holding a stopwatch.
