Bridal Showers?

Recently I've been invited to two weddings after some years of none because cousins and friends children are mostly married.

Both couples registered for Cash and Venmo. They are older, set up housekeeping already, and have all they want. Are wedding showers still being given? Are YOU still being invited to wedding showers?

Yes, wedding showers still happen. The most recent one I went to was of my cousin. She and her husband got married at 30, had been living together for seven years already. They had much of what they needed for a household. They still registered for some household items but also had a fund to contribute to. Some gifts but mostly cards were left in the back of the room and opening gifts was not a part of the shower.

I haven't had any in awhile due to the ages of the generations, but yes the last wedding I went to, there was a bridal shower.

WOW we are OLD, that is my take away from this thread. I have been to ONE graduation party where the thank you's were there in a basket the mother of the nephew handed as we said our good byes. TACKY for sure. At the time I racked it up to; well my sister knows her son. He wasn't about to write thank you notes. He did improve with age, we got a very nice thank you for his wedding gift. As the hostess I applaud you for your ability to keep to your values in your home. Please leave this bride to her own sensibilities. It is not your job to be involved in her thank you notes. Pre-written or other wise!! The question is now that you have said no, will she bring her own bowl of thank you scrolls? That would do me in. Your original question mentioned Etiquette. I know of no "expert" on such things that would give a recipient permission to not reply in writing a specific and heart felt thank you. A "generic thank you for coming " IS NOT A THANK YOU NOTE!

Your coasters are lovely. I have two sets of needlepoint coasters made for my mother and me by my sister-in-law over fifty years ago. My set has a tightly woven back glued on and my mothers set has nothing attached to the back (they are very neatly done as I'm sure yours are too.) I use them primarily at the bridge table and like that they may be slid out of the way when necessary. I am happy that they are not water repellant so any condensation on a glass is absorbed by the wool yarn rather than puddling on the coaster. The coasters seem to dry out very quickly. I have never had to wash them although I know I could if necessary. I'm sure the recipient will be thrilled, especially since they go perfectly with the beautiful china.

You look wonderful! Great choices. Thanks for taking us along. The navy dress was the other contender, fine as is, but with a cardigan it went directly to school marm. Not good. Oh, goodness, yes, I've discovered this with some of my favorite sleeveless dresses that look great on their own like yours did, but don't pair well with anything over them.

No, she did not have couture, she had more accessible knockoffs. She had one like this that was sleeveless and two that were beaded bodice over wool satin bottoms and a separate top, that I can think of. Luckily she also had a neighbor, (A Japanese woman who also took care of me and taught me how to use chopsticks as a toddler) who could do things like take these apart and bring in sleeves at the shoulder or length at the waist and stuff like that.

I received an invite to a bridal shower recently. The invite link to the registry only shows a request for funds for their honeymoon which is done directly on the site. They have been living together for a while, so not needing household items. I’m guessing there will be no gifts to open at the shower.

I totally missed the question with my answer! 🤪 I read it correctly but I saw a question where there wasn’t one. So, yes I am being invited to wedding showers - mostly being held for younger extended family members.

I haven't been to a bridal shower in years. I think most couples have had their own places pre-wedding, and when they combine their households, they already have two of everything. I remember my Aunt Laura giving us an iron as an engagement gift and the ironing board at my shower. That was 50 years ago. I am sure that neither of my kids has ever ironed anything in their entire lives.
