Bridal shower - etiquette
Comments (15)I was just curious as to how it's done in other areas. Here it's typical for the maid of honor to take care of it or the Mom. I just typed a big long thing but I'll attempt to shorten. BIL is getting married this summer. Future SIL I'll call *Maggie* has three bridesmaids (me being one of them) and the maid of honor. MOH is her (only) friend, of course I'm the future SIL and the other two are actually the wives of BIL's friends. None of us know each other well. They had a gathering shortly after we were all asked so we could meet. We've been emailing details back and forth about the bridal shower. I (we - DH too) can only be around Maggie in small doses. She has a I'm better than you attitude, etc. and sucks so far up MIL's rump when she's around it makes me want to gag. We've paid for all the normal stuff but this shower is costing lots of money. I guess the MOH shouldn't have to pay for it herself. My best friend and Mom paid for mine. My MOH (sister) was living across the country at the time. IMO, Maggie's Mom wants to be so involved (another long story)how about she participate somehow in this shower. MOH wants to do a "special bridesmaid gift". So now I get to pay for a bridal shower gift, special gift, wedding $$$ gift. Oh, don't forget the bachelorette party! MOH suggested we pack it up and head to the beach. Um, no thank you. I would feel different if we were all great friends. If I'm going to pay to go on vacation I'll go with DH. Money doesn't grow on trees in my backyard. Games? Oh can't wait. Maggie picked them out too. Nothing like a good surprise. In the end we'll all keep our mouths shut, smile, and it will turn out fine. :)...See MoreNeed help coming up with poem or riddle
Comments (25)Loves2cook, I missed it completely. Good thing, I'm not so poetic anyway! So you used all of the poems? Even LindaC's about the guy from Nantucket? (grin) I'm not too far from Chicago, just about straight across the Lake in Michigan. You missed out on a forum get together just a couple of weeks ago with Linda (doucanoe), Sherry (sheshebop, the poet), Peppi (who lives in Chicago) and me. Oh, and Peppi's Dad, her dog Dylan, Linda's daughter and future SIL and probably others that I missed while I was tipping the wine bottle, LOL. Annie...See MoreWhere can I find....
Comments (10)I've never heard of Sur la Table, so they may not have a store near to me. Hmmm...restaurant supply....like Smart & Final? Now there's someplace I hadn't thought of. I tried K-Mart and Home Goods today ... they had the BIG scoops (what I'd call a crushed ice scoop). The type I am looking for are small - my largest is 3" long with a 1-1/2" handle, the second largest is 2-1/2" long with a 1-1/2" handle, and the only other one I still have is about 2" long with a 1-1/4" handle. They don't hold much but they permanently reside inside the canister. Mine all match, so they probably came in a set of 4 (I remember having another one, but have no clue where it went). I'll check the restaurant place, but suspect that I'll have to try other "catalog houses" or either LnT or BBB. Thanks, DonnaR/CA...See Morebridal shower question
Comments (6)We seem to have a lot of engagements, weddings, etc coming up in the near future, so I'll share a few of my ideas. For dd's DF's wedding shower (she's maid of honor), I made an afgan, and packaged it in one of those pretty, lined rectagular baskets you everywhere these days. Then wrapped it with cellophane and a pretty bow. My niece just got engaged. Started with a basket again. Made a few patchwork hot plates, then I made one of those honeycomb bun warmer things for it, and ordered a bunch of spices from Penzeys, which I tucked into the various little spaces in the bun thingy. Again, I wrapped it in cellophane. And make no mistake--a grouping of good quality spices is not an inexpensive gift. It's a very nice gift to get someone started. I added a little note on the card to the effect that I hoped their life together would have 'zest and flavor'. Another really nice gift, that most newlyweds aren't going to invest in for themselves--unless they're pretty well off--is a nice enamelled cast iron pan. I plan to give DD's friend the lodge apple for her wedding gift (filled with an assortment of spices)....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
