Sweet little Punkin is a lucky girl to find refuge with you. What is it with some GSs? Years ago, a neighboring GS got out past its invisible fence and killed the yorkie across the street (picked it up in its mouth and in so doing, punctured its lungs) with the yorkie’s owner right there and unable to do anything about it.

Punkin is an absolute cutie pie. And remember, rules are made to be broken. Also, is ther a TNR program near you?

From one crazy old cat lady to another, thank you for saving Punkin. I had a yellow cat years ago named Pumpkin, and I have had a ginger girl for six years now. I got her from the Humane Society, and her name is Poppy. The police need to be called on the awful woman who lets her killer dog run the neighborhood. Next, it might be a person he attacks.

How could you resist? She's adorable. And fie on that neighbor! Next time, take video and call animal control.

My theory:

Count the number of cats you have. Then ,add one more number. That number becomes the crazy cat lady status.

nothing makes me more irate than irresponsible dog owners. do you have a place where you can confine this dog until animal control can pick it up? i would call AC every single time. maybe if this woman has to pay to get her dog sprung from the pound a few times, she'll think twice about letting it run loose. heck, in these circumstances, i wouldn't be above just hauling the dog to the pound myself and letting them deal with it.

bpath, yes, we are working with a local TNR, Delta View Cats. We feed about a baker's dozen twice a day at our house and have been trapping those we can to get them spayed or neutered.

We had a dog like that in neighborhood, but worse. The owner led him to cats, for him to attack and kill. We worked like the dickens to get animal control involved. It finally worked. Took a lot of help from a lot of neighbors. Shame on bad owners.

I'm so sorry about your neighborhood dog. Properly trained and supervised german shepherds can be wonderful animals. My sister became stepmom to three with her second marriage and they were about as close to flawless pets as a dog could be. Our animal control isn't quite on top of things here (budget) but they do the best they can. The leash law is for the most part obeyed and I never have animals in my yard unknown to me - and only very occasionally a cat.

You'd be breaking city ordinance here - it's three pets total (cats, dogs, chickens or a mix). per household. I'm so happy you are able to try to help the ownerless cats. Truthfully, the spay and neuter procedure has gotten so expensive, many households just can't afford it. PAWS holds a low cost clinic about twice a year - its not enough.

If I were only closer I would take in that adorable kitten for you. Other than the elderly havanese pup who has 'adopted' DH (it really is loved and lives next door) - we are petless just now. You have a heart of gold!

I don't blame the dog. It's Mom. Two young children have no control over a dog that weighs more than both of them combined

I adore an orange cat and that is a beauty.

Our animal control is almost useless. My DH rides his bike everyday and had been bitten and attacked by a dog-same dog and while they did visit the home and find out its rabies status and tell them to keep it up they did noting but take a report the second time because he wasnt bitten. He just crashed his bike trying to avoid it. They took a report. OH gee. That helped. Good luck with getting something done.

Although my Pumpkin was a large male, he did get a sissy name. But it is true that female ginger cats are quite rare. Something like 4%. My highest cat count was six and I'm down to three now but bless you for taking this little one. She's sweet. Here's

Oh geez! So sorry you're dealing with such a bad neighbor. What kind of animal control does your community have? That is, can you report anonymously, and what kind of laws are there about this sort of thing?

Because, from your description, I can imagine her possibly retaliating against someone for reporting her poor dog.

Photos and video evidence might be a good idea, I think.

Years ago I had a problem with a big neighborhood dog running free, repeatedly coming into my yard, breaking whatever it found and throwing trash around. I tried putting a note in its collar asking the owner to keep their dog out of my yard, to no avail. So I bought a cheap bottle of dish soap, poured it all over the dog's back, and tucked a note in its collar saying that it had gotten into my garbage and "probably needed a bath." I'm sure it was a big job to wash it all out. The dog never came into my yard after that.

I get the feeling that a person who lets a beautiful German Shepherd out like this (the dog I dream of having) to be retrieved by her two little kids is……unhinged.

Can you find out if any other neighbors have similar complaints? Maybe others who feed the feral cats?

Donna, your kitten is adorable and I am happy you were able to save it.

What about calling a rescue group and getting a large trap to catch the dog? It's going to keep coming because of the cats. Maybe if you can catch the dog, it can be taken away since it's already killed animals.

I hope you can find a solution. I know many people ignore leash laws. At least you have that.

Maybe let the police know that the woman has threatened you.
