What to do w/ “Memory” Foam? — from mattress toppers?

It’s almost all good. Clean.

How is it that I have so much of it? Well, maybe I am an optimist, or a slow learner. 🙄

I kept buying Memory Foam mattress toppers to cover a firm-ish Aloe Vera brand dense firm foam mattress. I always cover all mattresses and toppersto protect them and to add comfort.

Unfortunately, these ”Memory Foam” toppers justdo not hold up. They bottom out and flatten out. Afterthe last, thick, short-lived one failed, I found myself sleeping in a gully. I just replaced the nearly new thing with a 3-inch organic latex topper.

I called an amimal rescue place and left a message a month ago, offering to maake them sized, covered crate mattresses. I did not hear back and I know they must be busy, as am I. In the past, I have made chair cushions for ea few bony elderly people who were developing sciatic nerve compression. The cushions helped them.

I guess I could go into the cushion business, or I could just dust bin the three queen-sized toppers.

Mostly, Except for saving out a few pieces, I want them GONE.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

PS I’m sure that there are many bony butted people suffering from sciatica and attributing it to their spine when it is nerve compression from not having adequate chair cushions.

Chop them up, put them in pillow cases, put on a blue shirt and cross necklace, sell, make a small fortune, STOP!!! Do NOT get into politics. Do NOT spread conspiracy theories. Do NOT get sued and lose all you built up.

We "had" one, king sized, we used for camping. Rolled it up & offered it on CL.

What I do is leave it in the stores that sell it.

Should I encounter some in my home, I'd discard it.

I have an older mattress and my 3" memory foam makes it wonderfully comfy. I got it when I had sciatica and it made it possible for me to sleep. I don't have any problem with it being too hot, though I've heard others complain. I can't sleep with feathers, they make my nose bleed, and I've tried latex foam, and while I like it as a pillow, it doesn't work as a mattress topper for me - it's too soft and doesn't "push back" like memory foam. Ok Here's the question. Why should one spend what seems to be a good deal of money for a 8" foundation for either a 3" firm Latex or Memory foam topper? Why wouldn't a good firm inexpensive 8" foam base work? After all you're really only sleeping on the topper. I don't see the point of expensive custom multi-layering. I priced a Talalay latex mattress and the 8" queen size foundation was over $2000 and the 3" topper was only around $400. Both were the same firmness so what was I getting with a $2000 base? Even with Memory foam there's all sorts of pricey combinations but in the end there's the 2" or 3" topper your sleeping on. What does the base really do other than support the topper? (And yes I've read about the air flow foundation advantage but it seems a little far fetched to me...) Also does anyone know where I can purchase a good reasonable 8" foundation for a platform bed?

I bought ours several years ago and we love it! I then went on to buy one for our guest room bed and one for our daughter's bed. When DS was in grad school, we bought him one for that bed. Two years ago, I sent one to my parents for their Florida home and they tell me that they've never slept better than they do on this topper. They went out and bought one for their Michigan place, as they said they couldn't sleep without one anymore (LOL!). All have the different comfort body zones. The only suggestion I can give you is to buy the 2" or 3" toppers and not the thicker ones. When I was looking for mine, several people on a decorating forum like this told that they'd purchased the thicker ones and none of their fitted sheets would fit over them. All of the ones we now have are 2 1/2" or 3" and the fitted sheets work fine with them. Lynn

Well, I'd be more worried about finding a replacement I love than getting rid of one I didn't, lol. I did buy a really nice mail order pure natural organic latex mattress that is really comfy. Firm on one side and a bit softer on the other, but neither is really soft like a memory foam or gel one is. Let me see if I can figure out the brand and will let you know. The first one they sent was an undersized queen and they promptly replaced it. The second one is better but they are not generous in their measurements. It's in a guest room and everyone seems to like it. I'll come back and post the name when I find it. eta: that was easy, it is Zenhaven. They have the Zenhaven and the Saatva hybrid; I got the Zenhaven. It is flippable, so should last almost a lifetime. The last pure latex mattress I had lasted 40 years, lol. Zenhaven

Memory and Tempur-pedic (tm) type foam has a lot of good uses. Many hospital and long term care patients would likely have a lot of ulcerated pressure sores without it.

Most automobile care seats have some sort of poly- foam. Couches, chairs, baby car seats and so on.

I’m afraid dogs would just chew memory foam to bits.

I have one I love and it has not compressed. I bought it on A and the brand is Milliard. Its two inches thick. Ive had it 11 years. I do switch it top to bottom.

I would list them on Facebook freecycle, buy nothing type sites. they will be gone quickly!

But memory foam bedding toppers are popular at the thrift store where I work. Purchased very quickly. People with older mattresses are often looking for toppers.

Crafty shoppers do buy cotton batting, and any fabrics we get in. We bag up worn towels and washcloths and sell the bags for $3 as "rag bags." They also go quickly.

If you buy another, you might consider a 100% latex topper. I’ve been using the same one on my side of the bed for at least 10 years now and it works just dandy.
