I have an older mattress and my 3" memory foam makes it wonderfully comfy. I got it when I had sciatica and it made it possible for me to sleep. I don't have any problem with it being too hot, though I've heard others complain. I can't sleep with feathers, they make my nose bleed, and I've tried latex foam, and while I like it as a pillow, it doesn't work as a mattress topper for me - it's too soft and doesn't "push back" like memory foam. I bought ours several years ago and we love it! I then went on to buy one for our guest room bed and one for our daughter's bed. When DS was in grad school, we bought him one for that bed. Two years ago, I sent one to my parents for their Florida home and they tell me that they've never slept better than they do on this topper. They went out and bought one for their Michigan place, as they said they couldn't sleep without one anymore (LOL!). All have the different comfort body zones. The only suggestion I can give you is to buy the 2" or 3" toppers and not the thicker ones. When I was looking for mine, several people on a decorating forum like this told that they'd purchased the thicker ones and none of their fitted sheets would fit over them. All of the ones we now have are 2 1/2" or 3" and the fitted sheets work fine with them. Lynn

Thank you all -- Geez, there is a world of info out there now...I had checked *some* threads here, but they were so-so...don't think I saw terri's thread. That link was great, walkin. Oddly enough, we decided to get a 1" Venus pad at overstock--I think they're there because Foamex went out of business--amazing discount. If we need any more thickness (I know 1" is very odd, but it's 8 lb. foam), we'll get another less dense pad for on top of it. Should be very interesting to see how it's different from what we have now. I'll keep the idea of the thick quilted mattress pad, tracey -- that might be a great way to address the heat issue. I also read on one of the gweb threads that if you put shelf liner under the pad, it will keep it from shifting around on the bed. Great! I have too much Ikea shelf liner I bought in the as-is section a few years ago -- so I know what I'll do with it now :)

ARGH, my computer wouldn't accept cookies, suddenly, yesterday. Hope it's back to normal today. Thanks for your suggestions, cooper, prairiemoon, alex, and vampiress. prairie, your link was fascinating...we haven't had those problems since we've had our topper (many years now--that's why it needs replacement) but it's sobering to hear that so many have. What have you found to be the best price on a suitable Dunlop topper? We're in Oregon and big fans aren't the issue (although we did need one for about a week this summer), it's my weird personal thermostat that will send me into full-on sweat at any given moment. Like when I was talking with a salesman in a audio/video store last night. As I was listening to him and he was looking at me, I wondered if I would actually start dripping off my forehead or if it would merely bead up...and if he noticed...so wonderful. Then after that I get chills, so you can see the fan would make things worse, at that point. Your suggestions really help, though. We NEED a new topper *now*!
