World Food Explorers

I live in a cosmopolitan area where hundreds of languages are spoken, and nearly as many cuisines are cooked. Some only in the home. Some for sale. Some as ubiquitous as hamburgers. Pho is not "foreign" food anymore. Though, it really is just soup. :) But I make soup and I don't make Pho. I'm far more likely to get it from the neighborhood joint than the streets of Hanoi, however I'm well aware that many foods are just an approximation of the real thing. Even in the food's home country, however, there are places that are known for having the best of it. It's been a good while since I've travelled abroad, and enjoyed the discoveries in out of the way kiosks and country pubs, fancy purveyors of the best served in tall booths where middle aged men are famous for taking their mistresses, and buzzing barn-like rooms where the glitterati hold sway. Even those of us staying at home can enjoy food adventures abroad through our friends; stories, good thing. :)
