@lgmd_gaz Do those shrooms sprout every year? Do you know why? Asking bc my backyard sprouts them like crazy every winter - I’m in PNW / Southern WA state. I’m told they’re fine & benign but I find them a bit scary under all of my shrubs. There’s a stand of huge 90’+ tall fir trees on the large property behind my backyard & I’m sure their roots extend well under my yard.

lgmd’s mushrooms are of the Armillaria group of parasitic or a facultative saprophite known to feed on living trees and woody plants, causing their decline and eventual death. The fungus can then feed on the dead wood.

Called honey fungus or shoestring fungus, or simply root rot. There are numerous species within this genus, variable according to the host plant. Some advance rapidly while others may cause their host plant to linger for years. The portion of this organism that you can see, the mushrooms (or fruiting bodies, are present just once per year but the main part of the fungal body is always there, just under the bark or systemic throughout the plant body. It is known to spread through the roots of infected plants or by wood-boring beetles, injuries, etc.

There is no ”cure” and though some species are reported to be good to eat, I sure wouldn’t risk it.

Also, most recent posts are not being shown in that order when sorted that way.

Apparently a lot of people on other forums are having the same issue. Sometimes i wonder if this platform will ever be working correctly.

@rhizo_1 (North AL) zone 7 Thanks for info on mushrooms. Makes me wonder about the ones I see in my yard. If they are growing because of the huge old fir trees nearby I do wonder about the long term health of those trees.

I don't get it. I posted my 2 thread this am and then posted subsequent to them and they were there.... now they're gone???

I tested the waters last night with a Mother's day starter. It was clearly visibly posted but when I refreshed it was poof gone. I wonder what time the moderators come to work? How long until they flip the switch back to on that allows new posts?
