Common area to wear out in my experience. I’m wondering how you’re putting them on. If you’re kind of wriggling your feet in, consider using a show horn.

Are they too tight or too loose?

It may be how you're walking that wears that spot more.

I bought the slip on kind and they are the perfect fit. Don't think I am walking any different then I normally do

i did try Sketchers. They were oh so comfy, but that lasted less than a year. The foam didn’t hold up.

If it wears on the top part of the back, it's likely from when you put them on and take them off. Maybe a shoe horn as suggested above would help.

DH uses them for inside shoes/slippers and the interior fabric, including the footbed, is just very poor quality.

Lowcut socks can rub that area too. My sneakers tend to do the same, and they're not Skechers.

You can patch it with adhesive heel grips. I'd look for thin ones, if the shoes aren't slipping; the padded kind might make your shoes fit too tightly.

Carol i thought that too. Took a closer look at them and there's a good amount of foam there. I'm going to try fabric glue on them.

I am on my feet a lot, and liked the Skechers. Everyone at work said, get Hokas, they last longer are better made. So far, Hoka wins, hands down. Very durable. In case you want an alternate, next go around.

Skechers just didn't hold up very good IME. I'm having good luck with Under Armour shoes. Moderate price, very comfortable, generous toe box, good durability. I'm a size 8 in ladies shoes but I buy 'Big Kid's' size 7. (The kid's sizes are often less $.)

Hokas rule! Since 1977 when I started running, I got a pair of Nikes every year until last year when my daughter introduced me to Hokas. Now everyone in our family wears them, even husband. My daughter bought the superlight ones (super expensive, too) for her Boston marathon next week but the runner/ manager wants me to wear the Challenger with deep ridges for hiking. I'll never go back to Nikes.

I wonder if any shoe you can just 'step into' isn't going to be too big for your foot *and* result in the back of the shoe breaking down prematurely.

I wore a pair of Merrell clogs to a podiatrist last year. My big toes were sore, and the nails were discolored. She said that was happening because the toe (and nail) were bashing into the front of the shoe with every step. She said to buy lace-up shoes, and to get my true width (narrow).

After consulting with experts (the KT), I bought Brooks Ghost 15 shoes in black and grey. Problem solved, although it will be another year before my toenails are normal.

I don't think Sketchers are as good as many other brands available. I had a pair and they proved to be very uncomfortable, but it's great that so many people love them. (My husband included.) .It's all about comfort.

My walking partner loves Hokas. I wear Orthofeet or Saucony.

I would recommend getting a shoe horn, particularly one of the long handled ones if you bend over to put the shoes on. Mine is about 10" long.

DH is a BIG Hoka fan. I actually am happy with my Skechers.

take out the bad insole and add a new one.

I understood it that it was the foam on the heel that is wearing out--the side/ not the sole. (Which was my experience with Skechers.)

My other beef with Skechers is that I want a true lace up shoe, not a faux lace up which many of Skechers are.

Also, I suggested looking at Under Armour shoes because the OP is buying Skechers. Skechers are generally had at a much lower price than Hokas. I have spent well under $50 per pair (on sale) for my UA's and have been quite pleased with the quality, comfort & durability. I'm someone who just is not going to spend over a hundred $ for a pair of sneakers. Exception would be if I was buying work shoes for an occupation where I was on my feet all day.

I love my BioFit shoes They tie, they velcro too. There is even a strip of velcro along the back of the shoe to tighten up if one foot is shorter than the other!

Re: Shoehorns. I just bought two blue plastic ones on A for peanuts. They are fine, but I wish I'd chosen wood. These 'clatter' (just like plastic!) l when I set them down. I'm fine with short-handled; I have to bend to get my foot started into the shoe anyway.
