What do you guys fill your big pots with?
Comments (26)I just read this morning in a little booklet called "No Toil Power Soil" that you can turn your large containers into a lasagna type garden. "Start by covering the drainage holes with several thin layers of wet newspaper. In very large pots, you can fill the bottom with empty cans turned UPSIDE DOWN...next add a 2-inch layer of compost, then a layer of potting soil, then more compost, then more potting soil yada, yada, yada. Pull back the layers and pop in your plants. After planting, cover the soil with a mulch to preserve moisture. Later in the season you can fertilize with compost tea or liquid fertilizer of some sort. I have yet to try that in particular, but it sounds like a very good idea. In my big containers, I use large chunks of landscaping mulch in the bottom third of the pot. It has always worked for me. The roots go down into that mulch and seem to like it. Hope this works for you....See MoreHow Frequently Do You Fill the Tank on Your Neos?
Comments (10)I'm in central FL and am also new to broms. Mine seem very low attention. Sprinklers run twice a week for the grass & that is enough. Mine are in part shade under the canopy of an oak. Mostly they need no special attention. The exception is one wide leafed variety (forget the name right now), that seems to need some extra water dumped into it when its cup runs dry. In that second picture, it is the large red one to the left behind the tree trunk. Kind of hidden here sorry - don't have a better pic. Anyhow, I can tell when it needs water not because the cup is empty, but because the leaves start to curl in on themselves a bit, as if something was rolling up the leaf lengthwise into a tube. My matchsticks show this same behavior too when they don't get enough water. I've been experimenting with how much sun those can take, and the ones that are in too sunny of a location show obvious signs of drought stress. I'd say if the plant isn't showing any stress symptoms in its leaves, then it is fine. What do other's think?...See MoreWANTED: What do you like to do to your.....
Comments (7)No problem Terri. LOL! Here is what I would do. Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table ============================= Long loaf of Italian Bread or long crusty rolls. 1/4 cup butter 1/2 cup gorgonzola cheese 1 to 2 cloves garlic parsley salt pepper fresh grated parmesan cheese Optional: Basil or Oregano . Cream the butter with the gorgonzola cheese. Mince garlic and add to cheese mixture. Add chopped parsley, and season with salt and pepper. If using the basil or the oregano add now as well. Leave loaf whole, but cut slices so that the loaf stays together. Spread cheese mixture in between each slice and reshape loaf. Sprinkle top of loaf with parmesan cheese and wrap in foil. Place in 400°F oven for 10 or 15 minutes and serve hot....See MoreKeurig do you fill your own kcups?
Comments (22)I do not have one but my friends that do and try to make their own cups seldom make decent coffee. One of the things that most do not realize is that the coffee in them is micro-ground. That is finer than espresso grind and most filters will not catch all of it. When the cups first were on the market almost all had instant coffee powder in the cups. You seldom see that listed anymore but it could be hidden under "added flavor". I use a two cup Toastess brand coffee maker which sadly they seem to have discontinued. One of the other dislikes with the machines is that if you use a flavored coffee or other drink the flavor lingers. This way I can keep one side for one type the other for other uses....See More- 9 months ago
