Need plant vibes
Comments (12)Jeanne, Trout lilies in the Piedmont seem to grow to a depth that the soil allows, i.e., in good soil they grow deep, but in heavy clay they are not so deep. I have not dug any of them in the mts. so I don't know up there...but other small plants such as dentarias have been close to the surface. We dig all over the state, where ever we can get permission from a developer or other landowner. For me it is mainly in the Piedmont although once in a while in the mts. Of course, many areas no longer have any plants to speak of as they are old farm land with the natives long ago destroyed. Sometimes I am surprised at what we have found in a small corner, such as on a steep hillside where the farmers could not plant and the animals could not graze. I occasionally drive through the Nantahala on my way to Chattanooga and last spring stopped for a picnic lunch alongside the river...found one lonely trillium in all of the invasive aliens and trash. I am sure there are other areas that have lots of plants there near you. If you know of any place that "needs" a rescue, please let us know and help us get permission. I don't know any of the developers in Transylvania but I bet there are some great sites there. Rootdigger, glad you enjoyed the hike. We'll try to return when it is warmer so that, if you fall into the creek, you won't freeze. Oh, collected some Sarracenia seeds yesterday but read that once planted they have to be kept moist, so I am not sure if winter sowing will work for them. Also collected some Rhexia but they are listed in the "moderately difficult" category, too. When you arrange a seed swap, I will bring some....See MoreSending Good Thoughts, Mona!
Comments (15)Good luck Mona! My dad had hip replacement surgery last Monday. I am amazed that they can cut out an old joint and put in a new one in 35 MINUTES! His surgeon had a group of six surgeries that day - 3 hip replacements and 3 knee replacements. It's really neat how they stay together in a group for their physical therapy (they get some one on one time too), etc. Modern medicine is great! tina...See MoreInspired by The Vivienne Files ... and thank you AnnieD!
Comments (56)The vivienne files has a lovely aqua and black capsule wardrobe, Maire cate! I am decidedly not a size zero, so you may well be Impressed at the number of garments in the bag :-) I am not a roller, I tried that method once or twice and it was a hot mess to get things out--- any time you want an item you have to completely unpack and repack. If I am staying in a hotel longer than one night I unpack almost completely, hanging everything and putting other things in drawers. But I usually use the packing cube thingies from Eagle Creek and ebags. I will use a medium or large zippered packing bag for all my slacks, another for all the tops, a small cylindrical one for undies and socks, another for scarves, etc. that way when I want a shirt I can just take that cube out and not disturb everything else. I put these cubes in drawers as is unless something would benefit for being hung up. Alternatively, if we are going on a trip requiring a lot of dressing up, I will pack complete outfits individually in those space bag thingies. That way I have not only the clothes, but the stockings, shoes, jewelry, any special underwear, etc. in one package. Those are the bags you ziplock and then roll it up to,squeeze all the air out, then unroll it to lie very flat. It's amazing how unwrinkled clothes are when packed in those space bags!...See MorePlease extend some of those Cooking Forum good vibes my way...
