What Did You Have For Dinner From Your Garden Last Night?
Comments (54)Dale I would never be able to describe the exact location of where these morels were found. They were on private property, and I was invited by the owner, or I never would have found it by myself. Now, since she has moved, I'd probably have to trespass or get the new owner's permission. Anyways, you should be happy to know they are to be found in many locations in Oklahoma. Keep tabs on this link, and you should be able to zero in on a good location. I think there's another morel link for Oklahoma as well as this one online. You won't be disappointed if you luck onto a good morel spot. As you will see in the pics in this link, even the homeies love them, lol! Just wait til about April and about four days after a rain. Look for a moist woodland, where some deer and cows have roamed, and there are many such places in Oklahoma. I LOVE morels just about any way you can prepare them. And especially morel soup, or perhaps cut up in small pieces for tempura. A real delicacy. I've been thinking of starting my own little shitake patch. You can buy the spores of those online and perhaps other varieties as well. Dawn I can relate to the harvesting, canning and preserving fatigue. Getting kind of tired of it myself, so when dinner time rolls around and it's just me, it's catch as catch can from the garden. I really do hate to see the summer crops dwindling. Okra not bearing well. The cucumbers that store boughts will NEVER be able to rival are just about kaput. I still have tons of BIG tomatos that haven't ripened yet. Since it's been dry, with no recent rain, I've been allowing them to store up all that deliciousness and not get soggy or insipidly flavorless, so they have been amazing! Especially enjoying the Indian Stipes, which were not new to you, but certainly a delightful first for me. I'm hoping I don't get stuck with having to can jars of pickled tomatos or green tomato relish. I like it, but there's only so much of it I can eat. Today's menu was simply one of my baked buttercup squash, (just the right size for me), with butter and brown sugar, and cooked to pieces pole beans. Since I don't have a family to cook for, sometimes I kind of 'batch' and my folks used to call it. Nice in a way, since I can eat weird stuff that I like, when I like and not have to worry about meal planning per se. Comments (19)Well after my Lord and Taylor fiasco, I have been on a mission for a bathing suit. This time I went to a mall that had both a Macy's and Lord and Taylor. I put one suit on hold at Macy's then headed over to L&T. I was very surprised to see the selection at this L&T was totally different. They also had the Ralph Lauren suit I was holding over at Macy's. I was ready to buy the one suit when I circled around and saw another one I wanted to try. There were only three on display and one was my size. It is called Profile and I haven't really heard of it. It looked good too so I bought both. The best part of if I put it on my charge, I got a discount. I then turned around and paid my bill, so no charge to expect next month. Pheww. Next I will look into cover ups. I do have some, but wouldn't mind nicer ones. You really have to have an open mind and not care too much about pattern or color. Give everything a chance and see how it goes. This year, suits have ruching , which actually hides a lot....See MoreHave you found your style? Or are you evolving?
Comments (38)very thought-provoking thread. and very emotional too Both- found style and it's evolving -I'd say pretty much eclectic (I narrowed it, for myself, to my own definition) always evolving-as I get exposed to more, read and learn about and see more things to be fascinated with..styles to borrow from, details, things, colors, materials I didn't look at close enough/ touch enough before to appreciate them, different art? forms of art?some people I know can strongly influence me too-besides my Grandma whose style I think I largely took and reinterpreted, in my way-say one of my friends completely changed how I view photography..and inspired me in terms of putting together colors that I'd never consider before. it's also evolving because I'm evolving, and I think our changes should be translated somehow onto the house (not easy since it's not only my house. I'm pretty strong headed when it comes to homes so i need to watch myself. Minor things can really upset me-like my DD running buying a new desk that has nothing to do with anything in her room, because she needs to prepare for GRE, and no other table suddenly satisfies her, and the library has certain hours, "and then we'll just get rid of it, Mommy". No, I'm a hunter and a gatherer, I don't get this sense of urgency. I was mad and sad and seeing that temporary desk drove me crazy, until I actually said it and explained my "why"-and got a sincere promise that the old desk will return to the room after some time. Then obviously life gave me real sad stuff to be preoccupied with, as it usually happens) -Always guided by a house-all houses are different, I never consider myself an owner, in a full sense-a house "owns" me too , to a degree, it's a partnership, sort of a friendship where I'll be pretty much same april of course yet every frendship will still be unique because of the uniqueness of another person and a different relationship will be formed, different kind of a dance if you will. and this relationship between me and a house- it might evolve too it can be at some pretty happy plateau, or it can get bumpy me and the house can be very content with each other, or get slightly upset with each other. I can even feel it being offended, and all:) right now it's exactly how this song sounds and describes: soft voice (lines? fabrics?), catchy melody-I continue to listen...and continue to listen..so, it has its big spell over me..rather fast (colors, patterns?)..strong sense of a road trip..so, mostly where I want it to be? when you listen to the words though-lots of possible perils, imagery cool yet depends who are you when you look at it and how old you are.. or feel you are.. a sense that you're not getting safely back from that road trip ..picturesque as it may be. You're stuck while you're travelling. And it's lonely. when I'm alone in the evenings-and I'm plenty alone in the evenings, and it's my first single-family-house-so, bigger sense of detachment, even though I realize that our "big" to me lot is laughably small in comparison to most of the USA..we looked for that sliver of privacy, of course, but it's all new to me-so, that's how it feels almost to the "T". I'm not sure I answered the question, but I worked hard on writing an answer(why exactly I don't know..neither I nor you had to have it here. Stranger things.)...See MoreDo you grow your Citrus trees inside in winter and what's your set up?
Comments (48)Bklyn, it looks like you are using the same lights as I. Nice. Are those L.E.D light bulbs? Socal very nice. I love that reflection. It looks very bright in there. NO wasted light for sure. Kvetch, you are not kidding there. I can't believe how LONG we have had this cold, snow, and below average temps, and it's not even winter yet. I keep looking at the ten day forecasters outlook and now I see 30's . no 40's. I think I am going to be sick. The ones on the porch I have to water often if I use a fan. If I don't use a fan, it can take a few weeks before they need watering, but they only stay moist thank God. The one in my all season porch, I have to water those every few days because it's much warmer in there, much more sunlight, and I also use fans. LOl. I hear you about window hogging..lol Right now my tree and orchids are competing for the best spot. Jenny, very nice. One of these days I am going to get an Australian lime. Does it produce lots of flowers that smell nice? I would go after the fragrance more than anything.. Laura, didn't it seem like yesterday when we were growing them all outside? Boy do I miss the days when all you had to do was use a hose..((( Yes, all the twist and turns one has to take to get around each tree can be such a pain. Very nice looking too.I hear you got a couple of scale? That's easy to get rid of once and for good. Let me know if you need a suggestion.)...See More- last month
