what have you found in your potting soil
Comments (16)Actually now that you mention it, I did find one time what appeared to be wedge of dried up pizza pie, but upon closer inspection, and when viewed at just the right angle, I discovered it was actually a perfectly shaped religious figurine from a long gone and very ritualistic society that occupied the continent during the period in between the age of dinosaurs and the advent of Alfred E. Newman. I put it up for auction on ebay and the bidding was fast an furious until management found out and yanked it from the bidding. Apparently there is a rule that prohibits the sale of Miracle Gro aged pizza. Next time, I'm not going to tell that people are actually bidding on potting soil pizza. I really need the dough for more soil....See MoreWhat Did You Have For Dinner From Your Garden Last Night?
Comments (54)Dale I would never be able to describe the exact location of where these morels were found. They were on private property, and I was invited by the owner, or I never would have found it by myself. Now, since she has moved, I'd probably have to trespass or get the new owner's permission. Anyways, you should be happy to know they are to be found in many locations in Oklahoma. Keep tabs on this link, and you should be able to zero in on a good location. I think there's another morel link for Oklahoma as well as this one online. You won't be disappointed if you luck onto a good morel spot. As you will see in the pics in this link, even the homeies love them, lol! Just wait til about April and about four days after a rain. Look for a moist woodland, where some deer and cows have roamed, and there are many such places in Oklahoma. I LOVE morels just about any way you can prepare them. And especially morel soup, or perhaps cut up in small pieces for tempura. A real delicacy. I've been thinking of starting my own little shitake patch. You can buy the spores of those online and perhaps other varieties as well. Dawn I can relate to the harvesting, canning and preserving fatigue. Getting kind of tired of it myself, so when dinner time rolls around and it's just me, it's catch as catch can from the garden. I really do hate to see the summer crops dwindling. Okra not bearing well. The cucumbers that store boughts will NEVER be able to rival are just about kaput. I still have tons of BIG tomatos that haven't ripened yet. Since it's been dry, with no recent rain, I've been allowing them to store up all that deliciousness and not get soggy or insipidly flavorless, so they have been amazing! Especially enjoying the Indian Stipes, which were not new to you, but certainly a delightful first for me. I'm hoping I don't get stuck with having to can jars of pickled tomatos or green tomato relish. I like it, but there's only so much of it I can eat. Today's menu was simply one of my baked buttercup squash, (just the right size for me), with butter and brown sugar, and cooked to pieces pole beans. Since I don't have a family to cook for, sometimes I kind of 'batch' and my folks used to call it. Nice in a way, since I can eat weird stuff that I like, when I like and not have to worry about meal planning per se. Comments (19)Well after my Lord and Taylor fiasco, I have been on a mission for a bathing suit. This time I went to a mall that had both a Macy's and Lord and Taylor. I put one suit on hold at Macy's then headed over to L&T. I was very surprised to see the selection at this L&T was totally different. They also had the Ralph Lauren suit I was holding over at Macy's. I was ready to buy the one suit when I circled around and saw another one I wanted to try. There were only three on display and one was my size. It is called Profile and I haven't really heard of it. It looked good too so I bought both. The best part of if I put it on my charge, I got a discount. I then turned around and paid my bill, so no charge to expect next month. Pheww. Next I will look into cover ups. I do have some, but wouldn't mind nicer ones. You really have to have an open mind and not care too much about pattern or color. Give everything a chance and see how it goes. This year, suits have ruching , which actually hides a lot....See MoreDo you have your firewood harvest for winter?
Comments (5)You are correct! The storm wood is typically hauled to the landfills at a charge for commercial trimmers. 37.50 per level pick-up load or by the cu ft on the same scale. A friend’s trimmer charged him 75.00 per Pick-up load (labor and dump fee). He challenged hauling the trimmings but after 2 free dumps, he turned it back over to the trimmer. Trimmer will charge less if you allow them to leave your monthly curb side allowed (8’ L X 6’ W X 4’ D). There is no demand for firewood in this area. Wood was trucked in in the 70s with approx 50% of the homes having fireplaces. I’ll guess 1 of 300 or less might be used on Holidays today vs 24-7 as a friend and I burn. No Interest, Too Much Work and Challenging Us that enjoy the values!!! The City will leave cut logs on curbs or have un-cut logs and mulch at designated locations (to enforce no cutting in the Parks). Without Trimmers curbside wood and a donated log splitter, I would think 1 cord or less would be My Close Find “Cut” and limit per season. BUT! If I would burn Hackberry as my 1st burn in approx1977-78 I feel there would be endless wood. I felt I learned that Hackberry was not worth the work due to no coals and burning quick as Pine wood. **What is your opinion of Hackberry as Firewood? I feel it might be a Regional Difference. Some have mentioned about not burning Pecan and Elm that I have no problems with “Well Seasoned” (No Popping Or Urine Smell). Since my attachment, I have worked another layer of wood on the 2 rows (right lower is green, (front and back). Plus, filled my 4’ X 7’ X 1.5’ deep Utility Trailer with green Pecan. I’m Resting, LOL!...See More- 7 months ago
