Although I can still get the list of bookmarks over to the left in FF, I have put all of them up on the Bookmarks Toolbar, where I have them organized under several headings, such as Books, Crafts, Financial, Media, Shopping, and so on. When I click on any of these, I get a drop-down menu, and on some of the menus, I have sub-headings; for instance, under Crafts, I have a folder called "buying," which contains sites where I buy fabrics or paint and other things online, and other folders for patterns, message boards, magazines, tips, and videos. You get the idea. When you want to create a new bookmark, the "Bookmark this page," box that comes up offers as the first location to put the new one, "Bookmarks Menu," but you can click on the quotation-like mark just to the right of that and it will change to "Bookmarks Toolbar." Then click on the "V" over to the right so you can see all the items on your Bookmarks toolbar and choose one of them to put the new one into. So that I can cram more items onto the toolbar, I make 2 or 3 letter abbreviations for their names, and I even have one heading for all the different sites that I use the most often. Mtn: Oh, gosh, that is embarrassing. It looks like I read your post, got the idea, and then forgot WHERE I got the idea. Ooh, boy, creeping senescence... I am not concerned that slate used as a floor tile would not be food safe. I suppose your concern is not the slate, but a chemical sealer? My understanding is that slate is usually not pre-sealed. Moreover, I really doubt that they pre-seal the stuff at this price point; it certainly did not seem sealed, as water did not bead on it and it soaked the oil right up. And sealer, which is meant to bind chemically tightly to stone, seems unlikely to be transferred to cheese anyway. I did run it through the dishwasher before gluing on the backing foam. Yes, the square shape of the cheeseboard looks a little off. I had been sort of intending to cut mine to something like 7.5" x 12" (golden mean), but I didn't feel like filling the water tray of the wet saw. So, instead, I googled for images of slate cheeseboards, and saw enough square ones to decide to just go with it. The other "flaw" is that the edges are square. Most of the cheeseboards you see commercially have more rustic edges. I figured I would just whack the edges of my tile with a margin trowel or tack hammer, and spall the edges nicely. Well, it wasn't happening; I was just making small chips in the edge, rather than causing any of the lamellae to delaminate. I then decided that square edges were acceptable in a cheeseboard :-)

ugh! I now understand what everyone has been complaining about! New computer here so I had to log in... for some reason, some of the forums I regularly visit appear as normal, but some forums (like this one) are formatted completely different. The only way I could find the 'conversations' side was by searching back through my own comments because I remembered posting on this thread. Houzz made me select at least one "topic" when I logged in and that seems to apply as a filter to the posts and forums somehow, but I haven't quite figured out the logic they're using yet. It is ugly. :p

Every once in a while my DH will unearth an "old family recipe" that his mom wrote down from Hong Kong. His grandmother and a couple of great-aunts were beloved family cooks. So it was very nice that she wrote the recipes down, but as others have posted, it's not really very helpful when there's no measurement of any ingredient, LOL! After being unable to recreate some of my improvised successes, I now make myself write down measurements, timing, and ingredients so I can make the dish again [smile]. I don't get into a big thing about lost family recipes anyway. Eating has changed so much in my lifetime; neither we nor my family eat the way we did 25 yrs ago. I have one recipe I recreated from a photograph that my family loves, and a few years ago I gave the recipe to my niece. But I doubt she'll ever make it. It's time-consuming, and not something her DH likes. So she doesn't have the time to make something like my recipe, in addition to other dishes she's making for a family special event.
