Among other things he was a helicopter pilot and upon completion of his tour of duty in Germany, he was offered a job teaching English at West Point military academy. He chose singing and songwriting.

And who didn’t fall in love with him after seeing him in ”A Star is Born”?

Does anyone ’believe’ in the adage about things coming in threes? Or, to be exact ” Omne trium perfectum“ is a trio of Latin words that convey a simple overarching philosophy: “everything that comes in threes is perfect.” Not that I think the 3 events are perfect but when I learn of a well known person’s death, I always wait for the next. We just lost Dame Maggie Smith, now Kris - and now we wait to be saddened again I think.

I never could warm up to Nelson, I think the others had more talent.

WAAaaaa anyone else think music was so much sadder in the 1970's than now?

I had no idea he was that old. I would have guessed ten years younger. I read he was a Rhodes scholar. I loved him in A Star Is Born.

Guess he was before my time. When I saw him in A Start is Born I thought he was a B actor they dug up from some closet. His career would have come and gone before my time.

I remember playing my “The Silver Tongued Devil and I“ album over and over and over when I was first dating my husband in 1975. I thought the lyrics were brilliant.

I don’t think I saw him in a single movie, though.

I liked Janis Joplin’s rendition of his Me and Bobby McGee.

He was an amazing singer and songwriter, a genius with words. He wrote many wonderful songs for Johnny Cash and others, and had a very long and distinguished career. (Arcy, I'm not sure how you missed it). He will be missed.

I'm not familiar with his music, but I did see him in Big Top Pee-wee, which I liked. I somehow missed his version of A Star is Born, partly because I had seen two earlier versions of that.

I didn't know that Kris was born in Texas, and I also thought he was significantly younger.

And Kristofferson thought his own singing was atrocious. He said he sounded like a frog.

I like his singing in a Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen way. To me it works.

Regarding my earlier post here about things occuring in threes - here’s our third loss of celebrity or known figure - Pete Rose of MLB fame has died.

KW, you could be right.

My MIL always said that about things happening in threes. It was always a scary time when two family members would die, and then another one and then ANOTHER one. It was ” Here we go again, two more are coming”. 🙂 It never ended.🤠

I wonder if Pete Rose will finally be allowed into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Well in Willie's case I think he pretty much stuck to weed after giving up alcohol in his younger days. I also don't think it's was as much as the hype would lead one to believe. Plus he leads a pretty healthy lifestyle practicing martial arts, keeps horses and eats mindfully along with his good genes. His philosophy is stay happy, don't worry and you will be healthy. Positive outlook does count. The other three had their own demons. For Cash it was multiple drugs, for Waylon cocaine and for Kris it was alcohol.

Pete Rose didn't return the loyalty his fans gave him before the truth of his conduct came out, at which time many flushed their memories and adoration of him down the toilet. In my view, he died alone and a loser. People didn't need the periodic mention of his story to remember over the years why he wasn't in the Hall of Fame.

His fan base has long been gone.
