Silly little triumph

Today is the first time I can fully make a fist, since the Fourth of July 2023. I'm super excited!!! I figured I'd be permanently disfigured. Whew.

We were coming inside after watching neighbors fireworks, and I tripped, in the dark, going to concrete steps, when I reached forward to catch myself. You guessed it. One finger took the brunt of the fall, the longest. And it was drooping. Sad finger. Only the second time I've broken a bone.

Yay, for a clean slate

Avocados take FOREVER if you just do the water toothpick method. I tried 4 in feb and had them split by march and rot by may. Tried again with a differnt method in may with organic avocado, new method was slice top 1/3 off pit, wrap in moist paper towel and put in fridge for 24-48 hrs, then put into ziploc -i used empty mayo jar- and in cupboard -i used one beside oven cause it seems to be the warmest- i checked on in every few days to see how the root was dooing and as soon as i could see definate tap root -about 2-3 weeks- i potted it into soil, and put it under low energy high output light -1200 lums- i got a shoot about 2 inches long when i decided it was time to put it outside -i was bending towads the lamp- however i didn't harden it off just put it straight outside in mid june and i think i have killed it now. I took a look at the roots the other day and it is getting root bound in a 4in pot, but the trunk looks pretty weak and the 4 leaves it has starting have done nothing since i put it in the sun, i am just hoping it recovers from the sun shock so i will leave it for a few more months and see how it does. I ma not too worried cause after that one got a shoot i started another 4 which are in cups of dirt in the sun so they won't 'burn' when they push thier shoots up. my suggestion is, make sure you are getting pretty ripe fruit when you buy them, ripe enough that you should be using them in the next few days. Also if the intention is growing the pit i suggest 'certified organic' there is some chanec that other ones may have been sprayed with something that inhibits the pit from germinating -like they do to tomatoes- and finally the fridge method, i was getting frustrated till i learned that. I have a friend who has a 13yo avocado house plant and that one was started using just the cup toothpick method so it WILL work eventually, i have just found the other method is faster.

Even though marked ones have more holes for salt, my parents always put pepper in the one with more holes because the bigger grains of pepper come out slower per hole than the salt. On the other hand, we have one set where one shaker has two holes and the other has three, but the two hole one has bigger holes than the 3 hole. If I used that pair I would definitely put the pepper in the one with the bigger holes even if it has fewer holes. We use grinders for the pepper and our salt shakers came from pepper grinder salt shaker pairs but the grinders died.

I think that actual unconditional love is a very rare thing - perhaps it doesn't even exist. Could you love a child who had no empathy and was horrible to his wife and children, to a daughter who was self absorbed and stole from you and perhaps others due to an "I want" mentality? Could you love a son who was a rapist or a daughter who beat her children relentlessly? Or, a husband who beat you and/or your children? To a man who seemed not to value you? Who repeatedly had affairs? I think there tend to be conditions to all love relationships and I think that is a very healthy thing. However, for the more average relationship where nobody is perfect but everyone keeps trying, yes there can exist a love between a parent and a child that is unique and wonderful. Keep in mind - not everyone gets to have this, you were a very lucky person. Treasure the love your mother gave you - it's not something that is gone simply because she is no longer alive. It's the gift that remains forever alive. So, it's not something that is gone now but remains in your heart forever. You continue to have that love. I agree with you about a marital situation. I have been married three decades to the same man and we love each other very much but of *course* each of us could dismantle the feelings of love by bad behavior if it lasted for a long enough period of time. This is simply human nature - most of us have limits of what we will accept from another person, and thank God for that. Those who don't, tend to invite physically and emotionally abused existences.

I sort of know the feeling of triumph (and relief) - it took more than 2 years before I could fully close my pinky finger in a fist after dislocating it when I tripped on a pothole and went down while holding my water bottle.

Falls are awful. Glad you're doing better! I fell in April, tore my rotator cuff. Finally got an steroid injection for the pain about 5 weeks ago. Feeling great. Then today was out and went to Home Goods, found a new small saucepan and after carrying it with that arm, my shoulder started bothering me again. I have a follow up next Friday and was going to cancel but now I may not.

Glad it was only temporary. You must have been working to get it limber again. It is a victory to regain movement that was lost !

Yay for you! Two July 16 ago I fell off my bicycle shattering my left elbow and lower arm. My reach is still not 100%.

Rob, its the small things that make all the difference,

I had rotator cuff surgery in june of 2023. Six weeks in a sling, no fun, Worst ofvall, the shoulder still hurts. No winning.

Broken bones can take longer than you expect, and I'm glad you recovered well. Finger bones can take just as long as other bones.

Can you make a fist with your foot - i.e., bend your toes around the end of your foot?

This video is good to watch, in case you have plantar fasciitis, which I developed recently, but stretching exercises have cured it. However, my big toe will not bend at all, and I was unaware than anyone could bend their big toe down as far as is shown in this video.

Runner stretches (shown in this video @4:56) also helped me. I think the calf stretches helped me the most, but my foot pain started with getting a kink in my calf and then traveled down to my foot, and I had severe pain in my foot, not to mention my calf.

Anyway, this is my own personal silly little triumph, and I accomplished it just last week, which is my it is on my mind.

When I was younger, I used to do yoga exercises, but they are more difficult for me now.
