I admire your patience, that's something I wouldn't do. I'd let them know, they want to do the right thing.

We can commiserate together. I have a veterinarian's office which is shorting me on some expensive daily medication that my dog takes. The first time it happened I figured it was a mistake, then 2nd time I called to request the 8 pills we were shorted. Just a week or so ago I picked up another refill and this time we're 10 short.

I see one of the veterinarian's in person in a few weeks and we're going to chat about the best way to resolve this. I'm inclined to go to mail order because clearly someone in their office either can't count - or more likely, is skimming pills.

GP vets are notorious for overcharging for meds. Many used are the same as human drugs. Get a written copy of the prescription (they have to give it to you, though they may not want to) and walk it into any pharmacy. The price will likely be lower, and at lower cost ones (like Costco), perhaps even more so.

I used to get meds for my dog at CVS. It was usually a kick because of their practice at the time of asking for the last 4 digits of the patient's Social Security Number. I'd chuckle, respond that my dog "Fluffy Anderson" (not the real names) didn't have a number, and we'd both laugh.

Ally, I agree with Elmer. Some are the same as humans. Also if you are near a Costco, I use them for my dog’s five heart meds. Quite a savings.

You don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy.

When my dog was first diagnosed of course we just took the meds immediately from the vet to get started. I didn’t count that time, but it worked out to be short some and over some!

Now I always count what is in each bottle.

If you have to get it from the vet, I would count in front of them. Trust, but verify.

Thank you both Elmer and eld. I'm guessing I may need to get it from a veterinarian or mail order because it's canine specific, for allergies (Apoquel). I hate to be "that person" who stands there and counts pills, but at almost $3/pill...counting pills I shall be.

My brothers a retired pharmacist. I remember when he was working at a hospital pharmacy, he was made a lead & making sure the pill counts were accurate was part of his job. I'd report it to the lead....and count the pills before leaving the counter.

I did some looking, ally, didn't find a better price with mail order. Other than a few that give a discount (one was I think 20% or more) if you sign up for monthly shipping.

When they short pills - how about threatening them with a pill-ow fight? Bring your own, or they provide you with a pillow, you promise to return exactly one after the fight.

I have an Rx that calls for 6 pills daily. the new math says 60 pills is a 30 day supply. I argue it every month.

Here's pill math of a different kind, no less stupid.

I've been taking a med for RLS for over 20 years. My dosage is 1200mg at bedtime. For many years, the prescription called for 4-300mg capsules per day. 120 for a month.

One month when I requested a refill, the pharmacy called me the next day and said that my prescription administrator had partially bounced the claim that had been submitted monthly since forever. They were told only 90 pills would be covered per month and that I would have to pay for the remainder of 30 myself. The cost of that was a few hundred $$.

I called the administrator and asked why the claim hadn't gone through as before. I was told a cap had been put on individual prescription claims and that no more than 90 of any one drug would be covered per month.

I asked if the drug came in a 400 mg size and was told it did. (See how clever I am, knowing that 3x4 is the same total as 4x3). I asked if a prescription for 3-400mg pills would be accepted, to replace the prior approach of 4-300mg ones? Why Yes, it would.

Called the doc, got the prescription changed, and have continued taking 1200 mg per day with the same acceptable co-pay to cover. That's been several years now.

I dare anyone to try to top that for a ridiculous story.

one of my past great danes took a specific heart medication that the vet charged $400/month for. i got it from a compounding pharmacy in florida (i'm in illinois) for $79/month.

Maybe I should count my pills. I just picked up a prescription last week. Walgreens have been having issues in my little town for the past couple weeks. They're having a shortage of pharmacists and having to close some days or partial days.

In person pickup pharmacies and fast food drive throughs, always check your order before you leave.....

I get my meds through Amazon, have never been shorted.

The only mail order option I have is from the mail order division of the prescription benefit adminisitrator my firm uses. I've had too many unsatisfactory dealings with them and don't want to give them the retail profit from dispensing the meds.

My dealings with Walgreens have always been pleasant and convenient. It's quite easy for me to pick up a refill at one store one time and at a different location the next. As mentioned above, I choose not to be so concerned as to want to count pills from a bottle. I'll let them do it. I believe the counting is done by machines oftentimes anyway.

My rheumatiz medicine comes in pre-packaged 30 count bottles so no need to count those. My other rheumatiz medicine comes in a bottle and gurgles.
