A friend of mine has Brooks Adrenaline for walking because they keep her feet from rolling so much. (foot and back issues) And New Balance Fresh Form 1080, they are new and clean so she is saving them for going out!

What does the podiatrist recommend? Mine is a big fan of New Balance, same as b path.

Can you get ECCO shoes? I wear both their men's and women's shoes.

My podiatrist recommends Hokas. They are casual looking though. It sounds like you pronate, and you can buy orthotic insoles that have arches to support your feet and limit/prevent pronation. Replace the insoles that come with the shoe with the more supportive insole. There are several brands available. My podiatrist recommends both Power Step and Super Feet. So look for a neutral or stability sneaker/shoe that has the look and fit you like, and change out the insole.

Chisue, can you wear running shoes or sneakers w support? I just came across an article about walking, running athletic shoes. I will try to find it.

I have picky feet! Twisted 5 th toe and Morton’s neuroma. My feet are always sore, so I hVe great sympathy for you.

Vionic shoes are podiatrist approved. They have everything from slippers to sandals, to sneakers to dress shoes.

With such a narrow foot, i would recommend Ecco or in a sneaker, Asics or Brooks. Aetrex and Joseph Seibel are also good for narrow feet. I also use Super Feet in sneakers to combat plantar fascitis and because of high arches. Power Steps are probably similar. If you have a comfort shoe store nearby, go there. They can fit you in a good shoe for your needs.

I am not a fan of Hokas. Yes, they are cushy but that thick sole is rather clunky imo and not a good thing for one’s natural gait. Think about watching someone walk with a flat step rather than a spring in their step where one is pushing off with the forefoot. That’s what you want to keep, the foot flexibility.

I am wearing Brooks now but when it’s time for a new pair I’m going back to my favorite, Altra. I get them on Amazon. Altras have great support and a roomy toe bed which I like.

I had a pair of Vionic dress shoes once and they were very comfy.

Hubby has Hokas which he says are just ok. They do look clunky.

Walking shoes last me 8-9 months as I walk at least 4 miles every day. I’m 69.

I also love Merrill shoes. They make many lace up styles so perhaps you should look into those. Keen and Dansko are also on my favorite brands list.

Forgot to mention above that my friend with the Brooks Adrenaline shoes has very narrow feet, too, and finding shoes that fit, and now shoes that fit and help, is a constant challenge.

It's hard to find something that doesn't say "Hiking" or "Running" -- which are laughable for me at 83 with my collapsing spine. (Neither do I want Mary-Janes, and I'm all out of white anklet socks anyway.)

I love Ecco and have been wearing their sneakers and their dressier "sneakers" for years. But I have found that each of their styles has its own fit, so going to a store to be fitted is probably a good idea.

I like my Mephisto shoes (but they are expensive). Munro was too narrow for me. Peasant feet!

If you like Merrells, I'd stay with Merrells - just get a lace-up version. My favourite Merrells are my Sirens.

The last Eccos I bought weren't supportive enough, darn it. They’ve always fit me quite well. I just bought another pair of Danskos. Good luck, Chisue, in finding the magic pair.

Do they have to be lace-ups? Dansko are terrific shoes -- I can walk all day long in them with no foot fatigue, and am well supported by the sturdy (hard) sole. I prefer the professional open-back clogs, but have the closed-back too along with Mary Janes.

Do you have a Walking Company anywhere near you? Our nearest is 95 miles and pre-Covid I still could drop in there once or twice a year. There are no rules that say you cannot try on, find the perfect shoe and look for it someplace else at a more budget friendly price.

You might be surprised at a brand you hadn't considered, footwear is such a personal thing and no one brand is going to be good for us all.

My shoes are not all that inspiring these days. Dansko and Mephisto for every day and those lean heavily to Dansko. I have a couple of pair of Paul Green splurge for dressier, ie short booties. I have to have the right shoes. I want to look stylish but will not deal with an instant backache the wrong height or sole material can deliver 😊
