I hate to tell you but I have run into two of these jokers. Now that he has sent you flowers and he's out of your area and can't meet you, he may next tell you that he has fallen into some dire circumstances and want money or expensive help of some kind. I hope that you will be wary of just this scenario.

FaceTime is a must. No ifs ands or buts.

Sweet_Betsy, I've already run into that with another fellow. I met another fellow for coffee who very much had other ulterior motives.

This guy absolutely seems legit. We've been talking for quite some time. I've been cautious, and taking things with a grain of salt/ at arms length. But I feel more confident every time we talk, and face time.

I hope he's a good person and you get to meet soon. Hopefully he will also introduce you to family and friends too.

I really do love surprises like that!!! And I'm so very happy that you're happy and that he has put a smile on your face. You deserve all of that and more.

Allow me to join in the 'buts', however.

- He's working out of the area temporarily, but does he live in your area normally? Does he speak about your area in such a way that he seems familiar with it?

- How far away IS he? So far that he can't come home for a weekend to meet up? How long will he be away?

- Does he speak of family members? Be wary of those who have no close family or friends.

- Pictures are great! But have you face timed him to see that the pictures he sends actually IS him? Curious what you mean by calls coming in from there -- is he calling you from a landline? What is his cell's area code?

- Do not - under any circumstances - send him money, no matter the reason and no matter how much he convinces you he'll pay you right back. . And those reasons can get creative and are usually a time critical emergency, leaving you little time to think it through. Please be careful.

I hate to be a naysayer and do NOT want to rain on your parade. But I read so many horror stories of con people preying on others that I have become automatically suspicious of "relationships" that form electronically with no way of meeting. I absolutely hope that is not the case here and definitely agree that he could very well be legit. How awesome for you if he is!!!!! Keep us posted. Happy for you, Jasdip!

I hate to rain on the parade too, but remember, numbers can be spoofed to look like anything someone wants them to say. I'd just be super careful. Pics of "him" from the area he says he's in can be found online. Have you tried a reverse image search? There are lots of pics on the internet that one can claim as their own. Until you've FaceTime'ed or done a Zoom call and actually seen his face, I'd be skeptical.

When I started the online scene, I had people tell me they met their mates/spouses online several years ago. A number of friends and my brother did.

But times have changed, and I'm well aware of that. Scams galore, habitual liars, married people looking for hook-ups, threesomes, etc etc.

My eyes were opened quickly, with the first 3 people I chatted with and one I met.

I did take it slow (still am) with this fellow.

The pics he sends me are him in front of specific things that prove he is indeed where he is. I trust him. We talk a lot, and we make each other laugh. He too is widowed, and has experienced the same things as I have, with online dating. Women who want a fling, one-nite, FWB, etc etc. We both feel very comfortable with the other and are grateful we connected. He lives an hour away. It's more than time I want someone in my life.

You know what you're doing. I have no advice and am happy you have a new friend.

Nicole, I do try and live life! I go out regularly with several friends to pubs and dances. I only drink ginger-ale, and we're up on the dance floor all night. I have no qualms in going over to a guy and asking if he's drunk enough to dance with me! LOL And this guy loves to dance!

I hang out with different friends (3 couples) and we have a Games night where we go to one household and play pool, cards, darts, shuffleboard, drink and eat. It's a blast.

I go to exercise classes 4 times/week. Everyone comments how energetic I am and how much I put into the class. Cardio, weights and balancing.

I do what I can do, and enjoy everything, I'd just love a man to enjoy them with me.

I think all your KT friends want you to find a great guy to enjoy life with you. Hoping this man turns out to be just that person for you.

When do you plan to meet...and get *real*?

Maybe I've been watching too many true crime shows but I would do a little investigative work. He clearly has your address, do you have his? You should do an online search of his address and learn who actually lives there. Have you googled his name? If he is a widower his name would appear in your name search in his wife's obituary. Put his name into Fastpeoplesearch.com and see what comes up. Who is his employer and does his job align with their company profile? It sounds like you have a landline number he is using. You can do an online lookup of who owns that number. Does he have a Facebook or Linkedin page? All of this can be done in just a few minutes. If you don't know how to do this perhaps you have a trusted friend or relative who could help you. If he is only an hour away why haven't you met somewhere halfway by now?

i do hope he is all that you think he is but a little background check would be a good idea. I also ask that you tell family and friends about this gentleman, not just us strangers online.

I second exactly what PRN said and repeat the part about "why haven't you met him yet?" Months of talking and he's only ONE hour away? Heck, we drive an hour just to go to a flea market. I think driving an hour to meet the potential love of your life is nothing! He could drive to your dance club and meet you with all your friends around since he supposedly LOVES to dance!

I haven’t commented to this point because it‘s very difficult for me to put my suspicions aside, but jasdip I’m slightly encouraged to see the update that you do in fact facetime. That way you can at least match the face to the photos and hope they’re not photoshopped.

We all want the best for you so I hope you don’t mistake our caution for negativity. I do think some basic sleuthing is in order. Not everyone has social media (I don’t and never have, beyond anonymous forums) but at minimum you should be able to confirm address and possibly find an obit to match his story. (Again, the latter is not guaranteed.)

I am naturally suspicious of all men for a while anyway. Men have always had to earn my trust. As a friend, coworker, whatever. But I know you are an intelligent woman who can spot red flags and will have no problem disposing of his company if he turns out to be a dud. But I do hope he is not!!!!
