Did my shrub make a baby?

Rosarian friends, I need your expertise! I have never encountered any of my roses do this before, so I'm confused--

I went out to check on bud progress (like all of us do every, single, day this time of year, right? Haha!) and I noticed this tiny little rose plant growing right next to my own-root Bliss Parfuma. I dug down a little and it seems to be growing from the end of one (or some?) of my Bliss's roots, but it was a little hard to tell without doing damage.

Did my Bliss make a little jr?

Given that this is an own root plant and it is apparently growing from the roots of your established plant, this is most likely a rootlet of a new baby Bliss. Congratulations, you're now a new grandparent :)

If you want to divide the plant once it's well established and plant it elsewhere, that is a way some roses propagate themselves. Sometimes you can deliberately try to get a rose to make new "mini-me" plants by drawing a cane close to the ground to get it to root itself (this is called "pegging"). Some roses take to it and some don't, but it can be fun to try. Technically if the rose is still patented this is propagating the rose and not something to be shared with others because it's still licensed for the royalties to the breeders. I don't usually deliberately propagate patented roses in my yard but if they decide to do so by themselves who's to stop them?

Obviously if this were a grafted rose, you'd have to check that the sprout is coming from above the graft (a "basal break" and the desired rose) vs below the graft (the rootstock and not the desired rose). If you see the rootstock growing on a grafted rose, you should rip it off the base rather than cutting it, so that you kill off that connection rather than just delay it.

Yours looks like a great "lucky break" in a new mini plant of Bliss. It's a wonderful and hardy survivor of a rose so I'm not surprised it's branching out.

I had a monster Lillian Austin that was my favorite of all my roses. One day I noticed that it had RRD & I was heart broken. I started chopping it down & during the process of getting it out I noticed a shoot from a root that looked just like yours. My DH pulled out the rootball of the original rose & left the root with the new shoot. Within a couple of years I had a decent size Lillian Austin with no RRD. I was so thrilled!!!

so, what's the answer? cause i bought my spider plant, already growing, about 3 years ago (give or take) and ive never seen a baby . h**l ive never even had a full bushy plant despite; the south facing window, soaking and drying completely for water (twice a month ill say), i feed liquid fish fertilizer (2-3-0) and replace the potassium with bimonthly banana peels (i prefer organics for plants) . its hanging in a basket .. i changed the soil this summer so i know the tube roots are thriving (actually wasnt prepared for them and scared the begeebys out myself hahaha) . my only thought upon reading above posts ; could i have repotted too soon and didn't let the roots get hugged? cause i assumed like most other plants if you give more space for roots, the more intricate the roots become, the stronger the plant .. is that wrong? helpp !! i want plant babies !

Nat, I don't mean to throw a monkey wrench into your list but I took out Ducher because I could not keep black spot off of it. Thrips loved it and so did the Japanese beetles. It was an underperformer for me, here in Atlanta. Others love it, so thatÂs just my experience. Gruss An Aachen is a great rose but he needs to be sprayed here if you want him to look good--if not, you're going to see a lot more cane. BUT, he does respond well to occasional spraying and he does bloom even when I let him get spotty. BelindaÂs Dream is also nice but does better with some spray. BTW, her blooms are much larger and more impressive in the cooler weather of the spring and fall. Of the ones youÂve listed, Marie Daly is the most disease resistant and has the most continual bloom. The fragrance also carries on the breezeÂwhich I really like. SdLM is another great rose. Mine does get some BS but with a little shot of anti-fungal spray every now and then, she does well. The blooms are beautiful and smell great. Neither SdLM or MD are very large, thoughÂboth maybe 3.5 to 4 feet tall and wide. What about Duchesse de Brabant? SheÂs on JeanÂs list that you mentioned and she made the Earthkind list in Texas. She has beautiful pink blooms that smell like raspberries to me. Mine is taller than wide but I've heard others report that their DdB are larger. I just went out and would call mine "lightly thorny". The funny thing that got me ready for motherhood the most was that while I was pregnant with Rhiannon and couldn't get a teaching job, I worked in a nursing home. I did just about anything, and towards the end I did mostly baths. After changing all the adult undergarments a babies diaper was nothing. Also learned lots of tricks about putting on clothes on those who aren't cooperative. But the biggest thing was that we had residents that couldn't eat solids so every meal that they served, they would put in a blender. It could be a ham sandwich, pizza, roast, apple pie, broccolli, anything that the regular meals consisted of was purreed for the residents who needed help eating or didn't have teeth or other problems. I learned so much about respecting the elderly and have such an appreciation for them now because of my experiences. Stacie

Elderly cats do get kidney disease plus heart congestion, our 17 year old cat did and we gave medication, special foods and he hated it and was so thin. Talk about hard, I phoned and got an appointment and told my mom I did and started sobbing and she told me to cancel it. I did puzzled why? She said if its too hard, we won't do it. I said no, its time and I phoned back and my dad and I sobbed all the way there to the vet and then we had to wait while this lady had 4 cats to get checked and then it was our turn and the room they took us in was the same as they check the cats and there was others behind us and so it was a rushed goodbye and I didn't like that at all. We all sobbed and cried, he was my precious, I can still see him coming down the hallway upstairs in my parents place and him yelling his head off and I would say he needs his four hugs a day as he demanded them daily. He was my beloved and I miss him still alot and its been 6 years since we said goodbye. Its a huge gap in our lives when we lose our beloved pets, doesn't matter how little or how long they are with us, that bond is so deep and so strong.
