Bona HD Finish on raw maple: to seal or not to seal

Installing site finished character grade maple (variable plank widths) on entire main level. Initially we were going to just do three coats of Bona HD high traffic finish (satin or matter tbd). However, the bona website says you need to apply a seal coat to prevent planking. Other discussions say you can go with three coats finish only. Since it’s maple we aren’t concerned with stains (we don’t want to change the wood color and maple is bad at absorbing stains anyways). So this question is about the best way to ensure durability in the floors. (Using Bona to avoid the quick yellowing you get with polys.) Any and all feedback is appreciated. Busy house with boys and a small dog. Thanks!
