Lighting Design Dilemma entry

Entry way lighting placement? Need help!

Hi everyone,

I would appreciate advise on placement of front entry / foyer lights. To the left of front door is going to be a hall tree with bench as shown in plan.

I attached a photo of potential flush mount/semi flush light placement we came up with as indicated by large white circles. It seems awkward to me. Also ceilings are only 8'3"

Entry is essentially coming to a corner of two 5 foot wide hallways. Wall sconces at corner?

Also toilets are going to be tankless wall mount that's why they appear set into the walls on the plan.

I need to see the space and the drawing does not really give me a feel for the space . I hate hall trees with all the eye clutter when you enter a nice closet with space to hide all the stuff is IMO much nicer but is this the family entry of for guests ? IMO from what I see you need 3 lights one above the door one in the hall leading to the LR and one in the hall thta has the bathroomand bedroom entry . IMO all the same ceiling hugger type but the one going into the LR can be a bit of a star. Or do something like this it has choices of how many lights so 2 smaller ones and a larger one for the LR entry These are from a company called bulbsquare. I have no idea about your style so just guessing and BTW I rarely like wall sconces but at least post a pic of those if you have them

Thanks Patricia. I checked out those lights. We like them! The irregular shape will maybe help with placement too. I attached another showing how we might place them. Would you be willing to scribble on it showing where you would place the lights?

The front door has a small window to one side so it is not perfectly centered on the hall. Should the lights closest to door be centered to the door or hallway or somewhere in between? the swing of front door will be changed to how plans show as well.

Attached pics. We are waiting on lighting to finish running wires. Front door/ floors / carpet are all being replaced/updated.

Also this is the front/main entry.

Are we talking about the "entry" right at the front door? Or the space up on the step up area toward the stairs. Basically, though, it's the base of the table that will somewhat define the style. The more rustic, it becomes more "Mountain lodge" and the more refined it can go modern, contemporary or even more "transitional". They are also pretty expensive so before you invest money there, figure out how much you want to or can spend now, and then start selecting things you like and create an "Ideabook" here on Houzz. That will help you "define" which style direction you like. You can "like" a number of styles, but ultimately one will become more apparent than others.

Wow, great suggestions and advice! Thank you everyone for the help and inspo. I will be keeping the same style entry table, but I am open to purchasing the 70 inch version if the mirror I ultimately select calls for a slightly larger console. I really do like the vertical looks vs hanging horizontal, so I will be looking for new mirrors that better suit the table. I also like the idea of adding scones, but will need to hire someone for electrical work and I will wait on that. I love the formal living room mock up! My table is similar except it’s all glass, so I’ll see how it works once it gets delivered. I also like the idea of adding a lamp to the corner and I the linen drapes on black rods. Thanks everyone for the advice! This community is so helpful. We closed on our house 4 months ago and started completely over with furniture so forgive the stock photos and horrible builder lighting fixtures.

Make sure bench id high ebough and deep enough that an adult would be comfortable siiting on to change shoes, boots, etc. Hools to the side of the bench so a hanging coat or jacket would not interfere with seated area. Older visitors may also do better with a bench that has arms to assist with transferring to and from a seated position.

Not sure ho to add to the drawing but I sure wich you would get a nice front door those builder doors are never nice and for sure not in a modern space . The lights comein so many different sizes they should be pretty flexibla to put where the light is needed I would do a light centered on the door for sure . I think the large one in the hall going to the LR is good I might do 2 headed ones for the rest .
