I would be tempted to shorten it for everyday life, and center it under the chandeliers and put some of the chairs in other parts of the house, and also break up the chair population at least with different seats at both ends of it. Comments (13)That is a modern or art deco molding profile. The current light fixture doesn't go with it at all, so I'm glad you've already addressed that, but I don't have a good picture of what the new fixture is going to look like. It would also help if we knew how you have decorated the rest of your house, or at least the adjacent room. Modern rooms are usually pretty minimalistic, so if that's your style, just get a large piece of dramatic art. You don't even need to paint. If your style is something else, let us know. Unless you dislike having a rug under your dining room table, a rug really helps to bring color and style to a dining room. Comments (9)In order to give relevant advice, could you provide more details and show a picture of dining room, as its size and configuration are important in suggesting a shape and size of table. You mentioned you would like elegant. Seeing your living room would help narrow down style suggestions and colors, for rug as well. The dining room overall has to suit your home (chairs are flexible enough to head in a few directions). Based on chair legs alone, I’d go with a lighter, elegant but non formal look, if it suits your home. Choose rug last and consider a non matching side board, which will open up more options and price choices, even second hand (paint if needed). I think it’s important to look for on line inspiration, to at least have a direction and making decidions will be easier and the look coordinated.
