Building a Home Design Dilemma Exterior

Need Exterior Ideas

I think we are going to do a combination of stone or brick and vinyl. Possibly with the stone/brick on the front left part of the house and then on each side of the garage door there will be lights and below that we will also place the stone/brick.

There will also be lights on either side of the left window, not shutters.

I am looking for suggestions for brands or names of stone or brick. Attached are some inspo pics and color schemes. There will be a screened in porch on the left side of the house added later.

We like browns, blacks, and cream/off-white

Once the shutters are down and the door is installed, it will look a lot different. I would paint the fascia a dark color to emphasis the horizontal line.

With a clutter of stuff and most of it blocking the view of something, it's hard for us to be specific about what should happen. You have to take it in stages. The lowish plants at left of walk seem OK, but the taller things there, along the garage, are obstructive and should be removed. At the first island where walk meets drive, I would have only one low groundcover plant around the palms. I think I would remove everything (NOT palms) in front of house and redefine the bed line. I'd remove the tall things around the back porch, and redefine the bed line. If you do some clean-up and retake pictures, you could get more specific information.

I'm sorry, that is not appealing. I suggest listening to houssaon. If you need/want to repaint the columns, go with a soft white, not a bright white. A new craftsman-style door and consider adding corbels or more craftsman elements--your home appears to be missing these. When was your house built?

The "free" mockups are usually for people without a PRO designation. If you need a mockup the expense should have been part of the business plan for your renovation. Did you get a quote from Celery? Was it too expensive?

Has construction started on the house yet? If not, consider posting the floor plans, exterior elevations, and site plan for suggestions on how to improve the design. The elevation drawing posted give me clues that there may be other areas in the design that can improve. As always . . .

WARNING: Posting your entire house design opens you up to facts you may not want to know, but should. Be prepared for suggestions that will make for a better design. Keep a thick skin, open mind, sense of humor, and a glass of wine within arms reach. You may not enjoy it, but everyone else will and you will be better off in the long run if you heed well the advice.

I don’t really like the look of that. We want some variation. Thank you for the opinion though. Just looking for names of bricks and such.

Mark and millworkman are correct. You can do you, but I would listen to their advice.

For me, that last photo you posted is really ugly with the combination of siding, brick and stone. It is rarely done well so that all the colors and textures complement each other. If you like wearing plaid pants, floral shirt and a striped coat, then you might be happy mixing those materials on your house. Visit your local stone and brick yards to see samples in your area. Better yet, if you see something you like on a real house, stop and ask the owners for the brand/color. Do not order anything just from online photos!

Thank you chispa, I will go to a stone yard and check it out. We definitely don’t want the same material all the way around. We just moved from a full brick house and grew bored of it
