What kind of coffee table? Any other ideas to make this living room better?

It's a room or a movie theater waiting for the popcorn. Turn on the darn lights or better? Take a picture in broad daylight. Lose the bed pillow first.

so, it is like a family, sitting, plant...room? I think you should pin down the real purpose of the room. Is it really used as a family room or as a sitting room? Or is it really a pass-through room where you keep plants? It looks like the place where furniture ends up when it doesn't fit elsewhere in the house. This is one of those rooms where I would want to remove everything and then bring back only what makes sense. I would fill the short, windowed wall with plants - tall, short, on stands, hanging, etc. And a couple uplights in the corners for nighttime. That alone would shorten the room several feet. In front of the plants and centered between the long walls, I would put two white wicker chairs and a table (side or coffee). That would pretty much fill up that half of the room. I can't visualize the rest of the room to give suggestions. The shiny drapes look too formal for the style of the room. My preference would be a breezy cottage-y look with white cotton panels on the existing rods, maybe painting the walls a sagey green to enhance the greenhouse look. It would also showcase your lovely hardwood floors, better than the beige is doing in the photos. If you can't remove the curio cabinet from the room, maybe angle it in a corner? But do get it off the long wall.

Sunroom size and flooring suggestions

I would have the size of the sunroom to relate to rest of your house. You don't want the sunroom to be too large in relation to the overall house. Someone with an eye for design could assist you there. We had our sunroom added on 18 years ago. At the time I researched ways to make it energy-efficient. One recommendation was to have tile floors as the tiles absorb heat during the day and release it at night. There are also other recommendations such as the type of windows (we used Anderson low-e) and the amount of roof overhang. Another factor to consider is the orientation to the pattern of the sunlight during the day. We have a Cape Cod style house with the sunroom going off perpendicular to the house at the rear. We have a great southern exposure and I am able to grow geraniums there all year round. Another area to consider is the backup heating for your sunroom if you live in an area where you would need that. The remainder of our house is oil-heated but we have an electric baseboard heater in our sunroom and it really runs up the electric bill. (We keep the sunroom closed off except when we are using it because of the cat getting into my plants.) There are books out there that would address all these topics. Look at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I'd go to sheet flooring (look at commercial products as well as residential) or the vinyl wood-look tiles. Or, look into "garage floor mats" and interlocking tiles. The local hardware store just did a refurb and have decent looking sheet flooring, wood look that is tough! There's a lot of muddy gritty traffic through there.

I’m in a similar situation with a small living room. We found a wonderful sofa that’s about 80” wide after searching for months. Most websites have filters so you can narrow the search (pun intended) to the proper width for the room. I’d recommend a sofa with narrow arms so you can comfortably sit 2 people, a single or double seat cushion and a not too deep seat. Then place a narrow sofa table at the back of the sofa. The sofa faces the built in. Have 2 swivel chairs opposite the sofa with a small profile table in between the chairs. A slim coffee table in front of the sofa. And good lighting!

You need to create a color scheme. Given the sectional and window treatments are probably the most expensive to replace, look at changing out the area rug. Find a new one that has color in it that will repeat the color of the sofa and/or blinds. Perhaps, install drapes to frame the window . I would look for a pattern to coordinate with sofa. Other items to add to make the room cohesive: pillows, throws, & artwork. The white object in front of the window, is that a radiator—IF possible, paint it the color of the wall to make it become less of a focal point.
That said, I would recommend a paint color with less of a yellow tone.

I would also try to accommodate both ends of the sofa with side tables..with deep seating this will be the most functional set up ….for people seated elsewhere on the couch…the little tables that overlap the seating and curl under the couch can be placed where needed

If you post a thumbnail sketch of the floor plan, it would help. Looks like a typical NYC/big city apartment. If it is, and the dining area is on the left behind the sofa, add a sofa table with lamps. There may be a way to rearrange the plan if you post the floor plan.

For now, turn the rug. Add a Knoll Saarinen Tulip Coffee Table - oval or round - in white marble top.

If you are considering a lounge chair, keep it simple and a color.

Best Dressed House has great advice.

- Paint the HVAC unit same as walls if you are allowed.

- Add light color curtain panels, ceiling to floor, on brushed nickel simple rods.

- Paint an icy blue, instead of beige as beige sucks the light out of the room.

- Paint the ceiling Benjamin Moore Decorators White (it's a pure bright white)
