4x4 pole bean bed, how to make a trellis system
Comments (9)Dapper, I placed an old ski pole in the center (because I had one that I was going to throw away), then I pounded stakes in a circle around the edge of the bed (about 1' in) and tied garden twine to them, which I then tied to the top of the pole. I planted the beans around each stake, probably around 4-6 seeds each, and they grew up the twine. I had to add an extension to the ski pole, it wasn't nearly long enough. While the beans were growing on the outside, I had lettuce growing on the inside (empty, shaded) area. I really don't care for or recommend this method, it's difficult to find/pick the beans that grow on the inside of the tepee. I'd stick to a single trellis if I were you, you could plant on both sides of it. Comments (32)Thanks everyone. We met with the builder this morning and I told him I wanted to move the fridge as Greendesigns mentioned. Thinking more about that, I'm really warming to the idea. I do like the idea of big drawers in the island. When we get to the point of meeting with the cabinet folks, we'll talk to them about prices for this. Hopefully we will have the contract signed on Monday and start moving forward for real! Kirkhall, that's a good point about french doors, we'll look into that. I was concerned about frozen pizzas fitting in a side-by-side... I think we probably will keep the side of the fridge open--we're excited to have magnets and kids drawings and such covering the front and side of the fridge! Kirkhall and LL, I haven't brought up the new plan on Build for a couple of reasons: 1) I'm pretty happy with it; 2) changes are much more difficult when they have to modify a stock plan, so playing around with layouts for a marginally-improved setup is not worth it. I'll post something this weekend, hopefully, when I get a chance to put everything together so it looks right and can give an explanation that I'm not exactly looking for feedback but am wanting to share with the great community that has helped me so much....See Morekitchen backsplash 6x6 vs 4x4 vs subway tiles
Comments (6)Regarding the grout, if you're doing a grout color that is in line with the color(s) in the tile it shouldn't look too busy in any size. I saw a stunning photo the other day of a pretty busy granite, light splash tiles and super dark grout so it doesn't all have to be super muted to blend. As for what the lady said, if you love the 6x6 more than the others, do it. I have short splash on both walls of my kitchen due to cabs and a window so 6x6 would never work but I like the looks of them and didn't realize it was a trend, but what do I know? It's not like squares are some fancy new, trendy shape. ;) Maybe someone else will have better advice on that. Here is a link below. Comments (11)Thanks for all the nice words. Generally, I have second guessed everything I have done and feel sick to my stomach most of the time, so to have people say they like stuff makes me feel much better. I kind of like the diagonal idea too. Thanks, circuspeanut, for the picture. I don't think that detracts either. I will be doing a tile fireplace in the family room next door (not an open plan, but a large cased opening between kitchen and family room). It will be tiled in white Sonoma tiles on the diagonal with little 2x2 insets. We will also have a diagonal black/white tile floor in the front hall, so maybe diagonal is a theme. Now that i think about, the powder room paper will also have sort of a diamond pattern and will have lattice doors. I think I may go with diagonal. I really appreciate all the input. I will share more pictures of the kitchen when the drawers go in. There are more pictures on my thread about knobs--if that interests you....See MoreKendrah
