Help! Tight Budget! Need to Update My Kitchen!
Comments (13)If it's considered an entry level condo - that is a starter home - I wouldn't change anything major. Just paint the walls a neutral color, clean and edit the items on the counter. Remove the multiple towels and dated canisters. If you have a Home Goods or Crate and Barrel nearby check out new stylish towels. Keep the counters totally clutter free. Clean out the cabs and de-clutter. Allow the next buyer to do the upgrades and updates to their taste. The previous posters are right that some upgrades will actually turn buyers off. In my area of middle suburbia, it is granite on old cabinets that have seen better days, especially if the layout isn't great. If your cooktop is older, around 8 - 10 years or going out - this may be an item to consider updating along with matching hood since you already have the SS oven. The newer appliances are a great selling point on an older home. I've bought a couple of houses where the old 1980's stoves were downright scary. Check out clearance, closeouts, craigslist or sears outlet for a good deals. As the others posted, new lighting can help brighten up the space. You don't have a picture of the sink, but if the faucet is old and dated, that could also be a great upgrade for not a lot of money. My personal favorite, the one I currently own is this Moen Brantford: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-25ecodZ5yc1v/R-202998687/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=moen+kitchen+faucet&storeId=10051#.UJvZF6UTBvc I don't know what your lighting and flooring is like, but a neutral color I love is called Autumn Haze. The color is by Glidden. I've staged and sold 3 houses since 2003. The following pictures are the kitchens from the two most recent. Both of these have oak cabinets. The most recent (1st) had 20 year old laminate counters. The wall paint was Behr Sand Pearl. The 2nd one actually had tile counters. It was newer with the original builder paint, except for the blue/green color. I had 2 toddlers and a baby and didn't have time to repaint and neutralize....See Morehelp bring this 2003 kitchen to date ? ideas
Comments (12)you may be able to just get new doors on the cabinets. the biggest issue with that would be the fillers and the cabinet ends and rhe range hood. the time and skill it would take to do all of that and make it look like something may not be cost effective. take off the corbels on the island and the arch off the window, and the dated and the corner appliance garage. not sure what size the two cabinets are on either side of the range but a 36 with two 12" on either side replace if you like the wood then 2 tone with a lighter wood on top would be nice and unique without being totally obscure. the flooring is pretty unique and makes a statement and it would make sense to build around that with some lightness on top but white may be too stark. an off white may be more complementary. changing out the light fixtures would update as well...See MoreIt's January 2024, how is your build going?
Comments (98)It's been a hard month. Recently I found out my dad has cancer which has spread through his body and he has several weeks/months to live so our family has been spending alot of time with him. It's strange to be building a house (something you are so excited about) and dealing with something so terrible. So I have been off the grid for awhile. Our tile guy has been working on tiling for last three weeks and takes his time, He's very meticulous about measuring and tile placement, i guess that is good for us. His tile work includes 3 guest bathrooms, laundry room and main master bath. He's almost done with the three guest bathrooms and laundry and will work on master bath next. I had a tile selection remorse after ordering from company called Tilebar. The tile I selected which were to go into the floor for the laundry room and master bath had good reviews. I also got a sample and saw their pictures and thought it would look nice. However when it was installed in the laundry room first (also to go in the master bath floor) and it was not what I expected and looked so different from the pics/sample. After a lot of thought, I decided not to have this tile in my bathroom floor. We have over $2K of this tile left and I decided to eat the cost and get another tile. I can return the tile but after 15% restocking fee and paying for shipping, I don't think there's a lot left. Our cabinets are supposed to come 1st week of Feb. I can't wait for this. We have our interior doors installed, trims done and harwood floors installed....See More2nd week of January 2024 winter is coming
Comments (55)I had to buy potatoes and onions at the grocery store today. I used the last of the garden ones last week. It's annoying, but I'm grateful. There's still a few small sweet potatoes that I'll use up this week in a recipe. And there's a few cups of frozen onions too. Does anyone watch the homesteader youtubers who do the "no grocery shopping" challenge in January and February? We could probably live out of our freezer and pantry for a couple of months, along with the eggs which are coming back now, but we would miss the things that we purchase. Oh, I also bought some kale just in case the kale in the hoop house doesn't make it. It's covered inside the hoop house, but it's supposed to get to the single digits as you all already know. Our friend is sharing a lamb with us. He processed two and we're getting the smallest one which is about 10 lbs of ground lamb and some other cuts. I don't know enough about lamb really, but did put Whole 30 Lamb Curry on the menu for next week. The last sheep we had, we did a leg of lamb, but I don't think I cooked it properly. It had a good flavor, but the texture was weird. He's the friend who grew out the pig for us a couple of years ago. Honestly, I would be fine with being vegetarian completely again. I prefer it. But...trying to support Tom. Oh, and my cholesterol was the same after eating Whole 30 (with meat and eggs) as when I did the 6 months of eating less that 30 mg of cholesterol daily. It's just gonna be high no matter what I eat and how much I exercise. But...the body makes more cholesterol every day than any of us could ever eat. Like my doctor said, healthcare is way behind the newest scientific findings about all of that. I wanted them to test my LDL because LDL isn't always bad. If it's the soft buoyant kind, it's actually beneficial. BUT, if it's the small, dense kind, it's bad and will build up in the arteries. However, my doctor said insurance doesn't yet pay for that test and it's expensive. Another odd thing is my VLDL and triglycerides are very low. So many things to wonder about. I'm a big wonderer. Y'all keep warm. It's not gonna be easy....See Morerebasheba
