2nd snow in January 2014 in Louisiana
Comments (13)Northern Louisiana? Snow is normal in the NORTH. Well maybe not in La. I know my sick sense of humor. Lucky son I hope you took lots of pictures for him to show his kids in the future. My kids grew up in Ohio so they had seen snow and were saddened when we moved to Houston and they thought they would not see it again. Wrong it did snow while we lived there not what they remembered. Closed the schools, road were dangerous(ramps). We were shocked with the closing. Ramps were our big hills. Everything was so flat. Enjoy it will melt in an hour or two.lol Mary...See Moreis it the first or 2nd week of March?
Comments (54)I am so excited--looks like clear sailing for planting now. Our onions were protected perfectly with that snow blanket on top of the mulch. And the garlic looks great. Now I'm wishing I'd planted more of both. I only have 7 dozen garlic, and about that many onions. I gave some of the onions to a young lady in town so only had that many left. Blackberry bushes are in, carrots and beets planted. I'll plant greens, lettuce and spinach in the mineral tubs tomorrow in a couple of days. And get flowers going. I fell off the wagon and ordered six plants from Missouri Wildflowers: 2 each of rudbeckia laciniata (it's a smashing plant, gets up to 4 feet tall, bushes out--and flowers everywhere--I planted a couple at the school last year); goldenrod; and Drummond's aster. But since I vowed to work on Bermuda in the yards in ground, the only other flowers this year will be cosmos, zinnias, and tithonia....See MoreIt's January 2024, how is your build going?
Comments (98)It's been a hard month. Recently I found out my dad has cancer which has spread through his body and he has several weeks/months to live so our family has been spending alot of time with him. It's strange to be building a house (something you are so excited about) and dealing with something so terrible. So I have been off the grid for awhile. Our tile guy has been working on tiling for last three weeks and takes his time, He's very meticulous about measuring and tile placement, i guess that is good for us. His tile work includes 3 guest bathrooms, laundry room and main master bath. He's almost done with the three guest bathrooms and laundry and will work on master bath next. I had a tile selection remorse after ordering from company called Tilebar. The tile I selected which were to go into the floor for the laundry room and master bath had good reviews. I also got a sample and saw their pictures and thought it would look nice. However when it was installed in the laundry room first (also to go in the master bath floor) and it was not what I expected and looked so different from the pics/sample. After a lot of thought, I decided not to have this tile in my bathroom floor. We have over $2K of this tile left and I decided to eat the cost and get another tile. I can return the tile but after 15% restocking fee and paying for shipping, I don't think there's a lot left. Our cabinets are supposed to come 1st week of Feb. I can't wait for this. We have our interior doors installed, trims done and harwood floors installed....See MoreJanuary Week 3 , 2024
Comments (37)Finally check a few things in the garden. Mostly just the hoop house and the hinged hoop. The broccoli in the hinged hoop had that very, very thick frost cloth on it. (It is one that Tim gave me. I would like to have more of it, but I've never seen anything like it. I can't remember where Dawn said she purchased her frost cloths. Did anyone else get any from Tim at the SF the year after Dawn passed?) ANYWAY, the broccoli is damaged. It was starting to make little heads and they are goners, although the plants are still alive. I doubt they'll make anything now that the heads froze. The stuff in the hoop house is mostly gone and/or damaged. I put an extra layer of covering on it even though it was inside the hoop house. The lettuce and arugula are gone. The cabbage looks really bad, but it wasn't great to start with. The kale is standing strong. The spinach was in a container and uncovered and is damaged. I'll probably just pull it all except the kale and spinach and start fresh. Now, just gotta find time to start seed. And a place to put them. I might just try to start them later than normal, like around March 1 when the remodel should be complete and try to put them out mid April. We'll see how it works. Just depends on the year we have and how quickly we heat up this summer....See Morehazelinok
