interior white paint dilemma

2rickies
last month

I was set on using BM oxford white in a great room with large west and south-facing windows, lots of sun, but continuing it through the house means it's also in a corridor with primarily north light. In the brighter room, it looks almost the same color as the primer--very stark, chalky white. In the less sunny hallway it looks more like a color, slightly warmer.

If I'm trying to use the same white in the great room and other corridors, do I just have to decide to live with the starkness? The bright light in the great room washes out everything. Or should I go for a slightly warmer white?

Also in that room: natural cherry cabs, blue-gray painted cabs, and multicolor natural stone that includes tans and grays, also white oak floors and beams. The hallways, particularly one of them, are very narrow and it seems like using a color other than white would make it feel claustrophobic.

Right now nothing is painted, just primed.
