outdoor lights // griping about...
Comments (5)I feel your pain. The guy across the alley had his whole house rebuilt. The builders installed a bleeping commercial quality floodlight near the peak of their house. It shines across his backyard and into part of my backyard. It also shines on my neighbors' yards too. The first time I looked directly at the light, the light was so blinding that my eyes hurt. Thank goodness my mulberry tree and orange trees screened the light from actually coming into the back windows of our house. After suffering for a couple of months, I saw the owner out near his back fence one evening. Since he had turned the light on, I got up my nerve and went out to the alley. I was polite and asked if he would come into my yard and see how the light looks from my yard. At first he did not want to, but I basically pleaded and promised it would take just 20 seconds. He said okay. I led him to the exact spot where the light first blinded me. He looked and said that he would have his electrician come over and adjust the light if possible. A few weeks went by but sure enough, Mr. Electrician was able to adjust the light about one inch downwards. There was almost no adjustment capability it seems. So now the light still lights up a part of my yard but its position has moved just enough so that it cannot blind me if I look upwards. I have noticed that he doesn't turn it on as much. (He has other lights he can use). When the mulberry tree lost its leaves a couple of months ago, the light was able to reach into more of my backyard. But the owner doesn't seem to be outside that much in winter so the light is left off most of the time. I have also planted some new shrubs but it will take years for them to grow high enough. I also bought an umbrella (the kind that tilts so that it is taller than the umbrellas that don't tilt)for the sole purpose of screening out some of the light. My advice is to be nice and polite with your new neighbor. And get him to come to your house to see how it looks from your vantage point. Seeing is believing....See MoreLong time no see! Comments (8)kasha - good to see you, and, oh my goodness! You sure got your brug groove going on, huh? LOL And I just might take you up on that offer come spring. How did your bananas do and other tropical type stuff do? Lucy - I wondered where you were. You are usually the first one to respond. Glad to see ya! And hope you have a great 2010 also! eloise - I don't mind being laid off so much, but having warning ahead of time would have helped. I can save money like nobody's business so lay offs usually aren't bad. In fact, they're often a great time to get done those little chores that we always put off. But man, I know kids are expensive, but my GS is like a high maintenance teenage girl. And I've got one of those, too! LOL Take care, people! I'll be back soon!...See MoreMention this stupid little gripe or not?
Comments (22)OK, counselor agreed w/ you fine ladies. DH offered to do it himself which caused me to say, "Well, I'm still waiting for you to change the light bulbs in the kitchen and you complained that you didn't have the time this weekend (was working on the employees taxes) but now you have time to do this?" Counselor to DH: Are you opposed to calling your DD and telling her to get back over and collect her things - her old laptop, her health food products and her garbage, vacuum out the room and leave it the way she got it? DH: No. Counselor: Good, then work on that and give her til Saturday. Me: Don't you think it's been too long or she'll say she was working too hard on the other house??? Counselor: It doesn't matter. She didn't do the right thing after you did the right thing for 8 mos. And, she was allowed to stay rent-free, bills-free, in gorgeous digs all that time. That's the price she has to pay now - to clean it all up - and it should be spotless! I'll feel like a complete fool if she comes and I'm there! She'll know it was me complaining - come on, how often has Dad complained about household chores....You know what? I'm over it. Better her than me - and if DH lifts a finger, I'll redirect him into doing something I need done for US! Dana...See MoreGripes and snipes
Comments (39)We haven't banked at a commercial bank since the 80's and doubt I ever will again. Granted they aren't perfect, but the people are nice, we bank entirely for free and when it came down to us really needing their help, they were there for us. Last October our bank account was wiped out by a hacker and they had the paperwork done and our funds returned to the account within 24 hours. I can guarantee a commercial bank would have been a nightmare for us. Most people don't know this but you don't have to pass banking at a CU because of limited branches. CU's don't need a gazillion branches because most of them belong to the Credit Union CO-OP and share services. Granted there are some things you can't do when you go to a branch that isn't for your specific CU, but normal stuff like deposits and withdraws, transfers and so on are a non issue. And you don't get charged to use any of the co-op member ATM's either. You can tell if a CU is part of the CO-OP if it has this insignia:There are also Credit Union service centers that centrally service all of the credit unions in the co-op. If you're at all interested, here is a site that you might find helpful: http://co-opfs.org/solutions/locations/co-op-network/....See MoreKathsgrdn
