Repotting: How many times is too many times?
Comments (2)First, forget the pebbles or any other "stuff" in the pot bottoms. It doesn't help. Second, if you can safely remove the soil balls without them breaking up and messing up the root balls, you can safely repot the plants. If the root balls aren't sufficiently knit together so they don't break up, don't mess with them. It would be better to wait until the soil balls are sufficiently knit together so they come out whole, in one piece. If that's later this summer, do it later this summer. If it doesn't happen by late winter, early spring, when you would be planting bare roots anyway, wait until that time and repot them. If they break up and put the roses at risk because of the disturbance, at least it is the appropriate time of year for them to experience that disturbance. Good luck! Comments (37)I have had a Meyer lemon for about two years- I’m guessing it was 2-3 years when I got it. It is grafted into an unknown rootstock. I bought it from my tree guy at the farmers market. Right now it is very healthy. It is about five foot tall and has about 40 grape sized lemons on it. It is still trying to bloom again and has a few babies as well. It dropped at least half of its baby fruits on its own. It is in a large terra-cotta pot. My question is this.... if I don’t want my tree to grow any more, should I forego thinning and just let all of the lemons mature? Does a tree drop larger than grape sized fruit? It is outdoors and gets lots of sun here in 7b. Also- I seem to have some tiny white flies in the dirt around the base and some spiders spinning webs to catch some random bugs that are on it. I’m not a huge fan of insecticidal soap. Any other suggestions for me. My first two summers with this tree were disappointing. One year I had about 5 good sized lemons and huge storm blew the tree over and knocked odd most of them, and last year I ended up with one lemon that refused to ripped for a year. It was not tasty....See MoreHow many drawers are too many drawers?
Comments (61)Beth, I know what you mean about the hinged door on a super susan. I don't know if I would care for that either - even though I don't have a problem with the hinged doors on my easy-reach uppers. But I don't think I've ever seen a super susan with doors that rotate around with the tray. I had two lazy susans with rotating door, and I hated them. There wasn't a lot of room, and on the one on which I put a crock pot and a couple of other heavier things, the shelves eventually slipped on the pole, and had to be readjusted (every year or so). I went with an unpopular solution here on GW - I angled the base cabinet, and put in a full super susan. My kitchen is custom, so I was also able to put a drawer above. Since my kitchen doesn't have room for a lot of drawers, I wanted all I could get! My Susan holds lots of small appliances, colanders (it's near the sink), and I can tuck small, hardly-used things back on the shelf, behind the turntables It's one of my favorite things about my new kitchen. sorry about the sideways - I can't get it to post straight on a Mac....See MoreHow many colors is too many?
Comments (3)Multiple colors is not a problem - the Victorians did it all the time. Multiple gaudy colors, even. Yellow is a problem color - when the light filtered through tree leaves or bounced off a lawn hits it, it turns sickly green. BM shows "modern white", which is a very pale clean grey, as a coordinate color for Coastal plain. Using it as "the white" in all the rooms would tie things together. Gray Matters is a bit on the greenish side of grey, the others you mention are on the blue side ... that might be a problem. Do sample boards! The choice of Coastal Plain sort of declared the overall tone of the paint would be greenish ... shifting to a warm palette or a blue-toned greys might look off. I'll admit to a personal dislike of any shade of green on walls, so I'm not much help....See Morekandrewspa
