Morning Glory 'Scarlet O'Hara'
Comments (12)I have an old strain of Scarlett O'Hara that has been kept true to type from the early 60's...the flowers are about 3" across,a solid throat down to the very bottom of the tube...I performed a full vertical cut on the bloom which showed that the only white visible was from the pistil and filament hairs..the leaves were trilobed to cicada shaped any very slightly(!)variegated... I had it growing in a small flower pot late last season and actually held the flower up to the computer monitor to compare it to the color of most of the other SOH's and other flowers posted all over the web... I didn't take any photos as I was hoping for some bigger blooms and better lighting conditions, but I personally thought the flower color was the nicest I have seen so far... The color most closely matched the color of the Ipomoea quamoclit I have linked to in the PlantFiles with similar microshading that dissappeared if the flower was viewed from more than 12"...some people may consider this to be a red...but everyone has different red perception... TTY,... Ron Here is a link that might be useful: Red color of Ipomoea quamoclit matching color of Scarlett O'Hara...See MoreI think I may be carrying this imaginary friends thing too far.
Comments (52)Mtn, I didn't know about your Dolyestown connection, I didn't see the thread Maire_cate mentioned. If you family is free on whatever day we do the museum, tell them to join us. :-) Marie_cate, I don't know what day I'll be going. I'm just back (just 45 minutes ago) from HHI and have a trip to Dallas & Houston coming up soon. It won't be until mid November at the earliest. The exhibit runs until Jan 26th. If we get a group to meet, I'll post the date here in conversations in case anyone else is interested. Your brother is also welcome, even if he isn't Mtn's brother. Maybe they know each other. :-) Joaniepoanie, They are not suppose to being having cocktails in the particular room, there are other rooms for that. It's not Mad Men. They need to be focused and on their game in there. :-)...See MoreHow far into sink (from back) should faucet reach?
Comments (8)Thank you all. Tresgirls, yes the 8" one's hose would be too short for a 30"-wide sink me thinks. Someone from the Jaclo company said he considers the 8" one to be more of a bar faucet. It's the same price as the larger one, far as I recall. While I change my mind a LOT (in fact, I think this whole kitchen thing has made me insane), I'm presently heavily leaning toward the large Jaclo wall faucet, or at least one of their faucets (their single-hole, single-lever one is gorgeous too and while the website shows it only drawn, due to being new, the company sent me a photo of it. Their 10" wall faucet turns out to be the same reach distance as the Kohler, only it has replaceable parts and beautiful knobs/levers to choose from, unlike the less interesting Kohler. What's intriguing about the Jaclo faucet is the combination of classy/elegant and industrial, which is kind of fun. Tresgirls, was it you who first pointed this faucet out to me? Due to the broken search function I can't figure out who that was, or even look up my old posts. If this webiste/forum was running efficiently (e.g. had "see all your posts" or "see all your threads" or "see all Theresse's posts" as most do, on their profile page), it would save people LOTS of time cause the way it is now you have to go through a zillion posts just to find a specific one hidden in a haystack! Here's a link to that wall faucet in a GORGEOUS home in L.A.: http://www.sippitysup.com/kitchenremodel And here's a link to their single-lever faucet...really nice!: http://photos.gardenweb.com/home/galleries/2010/02/jaclo_singlelever_faucet_with.html?cat=kitchens Here is a link that might be useful: Jaclo's single-lever faucet......See MoreI guess I am too short-armed
Comments (21)I'm 5'3" and loved the 16" clearance of our former kitchen - didn't even realize it was not standard until moving into our rental house for the reno. I asked my KD and cabinet maker (2 separate entities) about having the new ones 16" and they reluctantly agreed to indulge me in this, but then the 48" Capital Culinarian range top specified/required/strongly urged 18" clearance at least. We have so many drawers that I just said "fine" and planned everything above/behind the first shelf to be the weird things my 6'1" husband likes/needs. I have a short stepladder but I'm not wild about it. As for appliances fitting under the 16" vs 18", they *FIT* under the 16" just fine but weren't necessarily usable there! On the other hand, I am *so* short-armed that I pull all appliances out toward the middle/edge of the counter so I can really get at them, and that gets them out from under the uppers anyway. As for the Capital Culinarian, I'm not sure 18" is enough! Even after the adjustments are made to get simmer (crossing fingers), which will hopefully also make the flames rocket less than 12" into the air (seemingly), I will probably personally stick to the middle burners not right next to the uppers....See MoreSarah z8
