What size console for a 68" entry wall?

We have an entry wall that is probably 10 feet in height (maybe 12", I don't remember!) and 68" or 69" in width. Would a 60" console be too long? There are corners on either side of the wall, and my husband thinks people may bump into the console when rounding the corner(s).

I've found several I like that are in my price rage at either 44" and 48", but the two or three I really like are 60". I haven't been successful finding 54" - 58". Thank you!

Matters not the ceiling height. A console has no need to be higher than 36 inches, or lower than 30"

The total WIDTH of the entry hall matters far more than ceiling height.

Context is key. Show the floor plan and how the "68 entry wall" correlates to the rest of the home.

There seems to be a mismatched of scales on the elevation. The center section is of a larger scale with high eave and a wide tall door and the side parts have low eaves and low window heads possibly no taller than 6-8 AFF. Lowering the window heads is a big mistake because it greatly reduces the natural light in the house and lowers the apparent scale of the house making the center section and door look out of place. IMO windows should be taller than exterior doors unless a transom is added above the doors. The lowest-common-denominator height alignment approach is the result of the post war building boom. Today there is no reason to use short doors and low window heads if the ceilings are taller than 8-0. A "standard door" size is effectively whatever distributors or retail vendors keep in stock. I usually use TruStile doors from Colorado because they are made to order. Interior and exterior doors heights are 4 ft to 12 ft in 1/16" inch increments. Doors over 10 ft tall are not covered under warranty. Shorter doors are made in smaller widths.

You don’t mention height. Would a bench be better there? Best to blue tape the size of the art on the wall. This will help to get proportion right.

My first question always with a ton of wall storage/ display is what do you have that is really special to display/ I find most of these display areas are full of clutter and knick knacks that are not worth being on display and then you come back to ask how to decorate the shelves. IMO get s impler combo like Besta from Ikea where you can choose how to arrange it to suit your life and space . Usually a low cabinet to have the tV at the proper viewing height( center of screen at eye level when you are seated) some storage and a bit of display area.. You decide how to put it together and can look almost custom.These are just a sample of how to customize for your space

Look for a light in the extra large (XL) category when purchasing. I've encountered this same issue a couple of times over the years when dealing with huge custom built front entrances. Dependant on the distance location of the light in relation to the door, material choice, color, budget etc. will dictate your final size configuration. Good luck !

You could consider a very long (narrow in depth) console. Do something special to the wall. Paint, wallpaper, example:

When walls are that scale you need to be very careful about sizes of furnishings & the scale of wall decor

depends on what else you'll put ON the wall to balance the length of the console.

I'm not at that house until this weekend and will post some photos then. The ceilings are high at varying levels throughout the house, and the walls thick.

Here are some photo of the space. I’ve taped off 60 inches to represent a six console and around the mirror I’ve marked off a square 49.5 inches, which is the size of a piece of art I might ourchase. What do you think of the size of each? The space of the area beyond the entry is large, the walls thick, and the ceilings very high.

And lastly, two hallways that both my husband and I like, but I think a bench might be easier to trip over or run into as we round the corner from the hallway than would a console.
