A more put-together width for the hallway rug would be a "runner". The furniture would be off the carpet. Runners can come in very long lengths. If it were me, I'd make it almost the length of the hallway, but from photos, it's hard to judge what doors, etc. you have at the end. I'm not sure what your tastes are, but judging from the current rug, an oriental might work for you. I'd pick up the shade of the wood floor in an oriental rug with saturated colors.

Shirley, I probably found the lamp on Wayfair by filtering for buffet lamps. That said, I don't know what exact size you need, but you can figure it by measuring from the top of your console to a point about 3/4 the height of the mirror and look at buffet lamps that are close to that measurement. Then put something shorter and squatter on the other side to balance the lamp.

Very good thoughts, thank you. Yes, I am open to putting a piece of art over the console table. It would likely add some needed color. I can probably place an oval mirror in the front foyer part of the entrance. I'll look in Etsy at some paintings to see if there is anything interesting. I am very open to suggestions.
