Compost Tea - How to use?? dilute ??
Comments (2)A "not too good" odor from your compost pile is an indication that it is going into anaerobic digestion, most likely because of all the water that has been entering it as indicated by the fact that you are getting water out of the bin. You need a way to dry the wet material and keep it from getting that wet in the future. Many people would pour that water on the garden, some would dilute it while others would not....See MoreApplying Alfalfa Tea
Comments (3)Hoov, our last frost date is March 15. We are having weather in the 60-70's. Generally we are finished with the 27-28 degree night weather here by this time. I dont want to jump the gun....have lots of Vintage bands in 1 gallon pots that are doing well.....I was wanting to assist their root system growth - thought about even some very diluted fish emulsion, but I put that in the alfalfa tea, so wondered if that would be too early to apply. Or should I just keep them giving them nothing but water until March. What do you think? Judith...See MoreI Drank some Alfalfa Tea Today
Comments (22)Hahaha! Good one Celeste! I too can say it sounds like something doofy I would end up doing.... only I don't brew tea! I made some many yrs ago, but couldn't stand the smell, so I never did it again. But drinking it?? Eeeeeewww!! Yuck!! I did spill some Liquid Fence on my feet one time... that was nasty! Buford, I've never taken alfalfa tabs, but I take fish oil, salmon oil, shark liver oil and other unsavory-sounding herbals/vitamin-stuff. Burping up fish oil on occasion is pretty disgusting, so I can't even imagine it mixed with alfalfa!! I bet it was kinda like eating dirt!! And Roseman, you meed to lighten up and get a sense of humor!...See MoreAlfalfa Manure Tea
Comments (10)Update: I've noticed a good jump of new rose growth and leafy green foliage since applying the tea yesterday. The smell has mostly dissipated. Whether the growth is the cause of the tea or the warm temperatures, or a bit of both is hard for me to measure. I have not noticed any burning (yet). Konrad, I think it is dependent on whether or not you dilute the mixture before you place it on the plants. I have read elsewhere on this forum that it in extreme cases where there is too much alfalfa meal sitting on top of the soil caused issues as it tends to cake-up and form a crust. Wayne, good call on the aphids liking the new growth. The aphids here are insane. I have to spray the roses daily with water to knock them off....See Morebart bart
