Comments (2)I think you've got the idea re the mini hosta...either plant them higher up and away from the front edge a bit so they can be seen, or safer yet, pot them up either individually or in one pot and showcase them wherever they will look pleasing to you. By keeping them together, I think you may gain more impact and a pot takes up less space than required for several individual plantings. I have found that minis do not "leap" as larger hosta do....lol...so they will be quite alright in one pot for a year or two. You can experiment with how deep to immerse the pot in the ground. Just a couple of ideas for you to consider. Esther, you go girl! Keep that hosta/garden spirit going! It'll be a lovely garden. Whoever gets your larger hosta, I'm sure they will take great care of them for you. Who knows? perhaps one day you will move and you can easily get some divisions of your "give-aways" to plant in your new garden. Jo...See MoreGarden plans for 2024?
Comments (6)I love your Rangoon Creeper! I left my other one at the old place. I had the double type. I am going to get another one asap! I have big plans for vines this year. We have cleared pastures all around the house and the front 6 acres up to the ponds. So I need to plant trees and shrubs and flowering vines. Right now, I am starting butterfly pea vines..double blue, double lavender, and double white. I have grown the single blue before. It is supposed to make a good blue tea! If you add lemon to the blue tea, it will turn pink! The back acreages are all woods that still need clearing. The vines back there are Kudzu and Smilax and Japanese Honeysuckle..Everwhere!!! lol Luckily, the goats and pigs love them. It just isnt properly fenced off back there yet so I cant let them on the loose yet. What seeds are you all planting? I started my tomatoes they need up potting badly. I still need to start peppers. My last frost date here is supposedly April 1st! However, they now say we are zone 9a instead of 8b. I will believe it when I see it. We got a late March freeze last year that killed off all my mulberry fruits....See MoreShow Us Your Landscape and Gardens - A Photo Thread April 2024
Comments (12)The sun was out for 5m this morning and I managed to get a few more photos. It is starting to look like spring. The birds are back, they were chattering before sunrise this morning. I tried to get a photo to show how much the Vinca was shooting up new shoots this year, but you can't really tell from the photo. Standing next to it, I am amazed. This plant is so vigorous and resilient. 2 years ago, didn't we have drought conditions most of the summer? I remember looking at this bed and for the first time ever, it was wilting. And now it is coming back like gangbusters. And covered with flowers. I should have taken a photo of the street side, where it has escaped into my neighbor's yard. He doesn't seem to notice or care, and I think it looks good, so I've left it there. Robins were in the birdbaths this morning... Saw a Mourning dove, Cardinal pair, heard some Woodpeckers the past week. Thyme2Dig, Your Hellebores are beauties! I love the one that is pink and white and looks like a water lily. And the cream and rose shaded blossoms. So pretty! I haven't finished taking photos of the Hellebores, because they still haven't opened all the way. Which always confuses me when some people say their Hellebores are opening in February. It's just about May before all the leaves unfurl on mine. I'll take more photos soon. Another Hellebore, that looks just like the one you were talking about, but this foliage is dark. The other is in more shade. I don't know if it is the same plant. This actually has more leaves than last year. The two above, the pink and the white were part of a Dave's Garden Coop purchase of Terra Nova plugs back in 2009. I'm not sure which is which, but I bought..... Helleborus ‘Jade Tiger’ Helleborus ‘Berry Swirl’ Helleborus ‘Golden Lotus’ Helleborus ‘Yellow Mellow’ I know they aren't 'Yellow Mellow' Imagine, this is how big they are, after starting as plugs in 2009. I think they should be huge by now, and divided a couple of times to boot. I don't get it....See Moremikgag Z5b NS Canada
