Paint Brightener or Fluorescent Paint To Brighten Room ?
Comments (8)Consider posting some photos so we can see the room! We love to see lots of photos! :) Try opening a free account at Photobucket (or another site) and create an album of photos -- then post them here. At Photobucket -- just touch each photo with your cursor -- and click on the HTML code. COPY and then come back and PASTE in each photo. There are several ways to truly brighten a space. Paint the walls in white; add brighter fabric to a seating area; hang some larger mirrors -- and of course -- add lamps all around the room to create much warmer brighter pools of light. Of course -- adding sparkle with silver items too! Here's a great site with LOTS of inspiration photos. Just click on one of the larger photos at the beginning --and then check out the rest! Just some thoughts -- hope you don't mind! Jan at Rosemary Cottage Here is a link that might be useful: Phoebe Howard designer website...See MoreBrighten up the space with shiplap?
Comments (10)I agree with the above! The room just needs more contrast, a focal point, etc. I think contrast is your biggest thing though. Get some bright/light colored objects in there, whether it's curtains, art or your walls. Currently everything is a kind of medium beige tone. You can add some height by adding curtains to the window behind the sectional. Just pull your couch out a few inches so they hang nicely. Could even hang some roman blinds higher than the window to give the appearance of it being taller window. Potentially add some trim? Replace the ceiling fan with a pretty light fixture, if you think that will work in the room. If it's too dim for you, add recessed lights or some lamps. Threw some lights on there....See MoreLooking for a paint color to brighten up our kitchen /dining room
Comments (6)Without a picture of your dining room, it’s difficult to suggest a color, let alone a shade. Just based on your kitchen and wanting to lean towards cool colors, you can’t go wrong with white. It will offset the dark counter and floors and lighten room(s). Down the road if you plan on changing the counter or adding a backsplash, it will be easier to work with. Suggest Simply White, based on your cupboards. Add a blue rug (cool color) which works well with beige/white/brown. If budget allows, lighting can make a difference and suggest something with wood. Hopefully white will also work in dining room and again, add blue....See MoreLooking Paint and room decor Advice for Brightening Up my Living Room
Comments (6)This idea you can't or shouldn't combine cool and warm colors - if that is your preference, thats perfectly ok, but there is no "should" about it, and in fact a color scheme can benefit sometimes by having a secondary color that is contrasting with (ie "complementary to") the main color. Google "60-30-`10" rule which has to do with proportions or percentages of color in a room for best effect - a main color, a secondary and a third accent which as suggested above could be a color opposite on the color wheel. Or not. Think out a whole house pallette of about 5 colors and then you include them differently in different rooms. That way each room has some variety, but house as a whole is cohesive. Consider that whites, grays, so-called neutrals and wood tones are really colors too, not non colors so their hue family would need to be figured in. Agree that priming out alll the various random dark wall colors will help you immensely - cleanses the palate so to speak! Yeah the choice of final exact paint color happens after you have furnishings but its good I think to have a preliminary map of where youre going, otherwise it can get kinda overwhelming! And its a little less hit or miss to have something of a plan. `BTW I can't see how removing the staircase wall makes space "larger" - looks like its already opened up on top and if you see a stair railing there instead of solid wall its only going to look more cluttery - I think y ou already have enough angles and alcoves and architectural stuff going on....See Morehappyleg
