I saw this earlier and hoped you would get some responses. I have also wondered how one would update two-story entry windows like yours. Hopefully, this will bump your question to the first page and you'll get some responses.

What are you trying to put in place of the transom? Changing to a single Palladian is not difficult, necessarily, but they are expensive.

I would get some mock ups of the house done with no grids to see the look - it’s a big investment to get new windows so you want to make sure you’re confident with what what you choose

FWIW there is a house on my dog walk that just replaced all their windows with no grids and all the flat glass looks weirdly commercial and not in keeping with the house at all

I am sure Windows on Wash. will have some great ideas.

Beautiful house!, I am a bit surprised the window salesman doesn’t have software that will show you what the house will look like with new windows. Can you also ditch the miniblinds? There are better solutions to light control that look better.

thanks everyone! I was thinking abou removing the transom above the front door and just smooth stucco up to the larger entry way window. If anyone can recommend where to get a mock up done to better visualize my options, I would appreciate it.

I agree with la_la Girl that if you eliminate all the muntins it is not a good look. It's no less '90s than what you have now. It makes the house look blank. I can see what you mean about too many muntins, the house does look a little busy, but I still think no muntins would be going too far in the opposite direction. There was a house in my old neighborhood that looked like that (Boxerpal's second before picture), and it wasn't attractive.

If you stucco over the transom over the front door you need to move the plaster key down or eliminate it. No transom, no context for that decorative flourish.

i would elminate the decorative element over the transom, just smooth stucco. I think some muntins in the large entry window, just not as many as i have now but no muntins on the other windows. i dont know what to do with the half circle above the rectangular entry window then. It would need some muntins, but i can't figure out how to make it cohesive. I originally thought about muntins only in the upper half of each double hung window, but the proportions of my upper windows that makes them look squashed and weird.

I like how the dark muntins receded in Boxer's example above. If you did that, it might remove enough of the 90s look that you wouldn't feel the need to make other exterior changes.

Depending on what is going on inside, you might have paint different colors on either side of the muntins.
