You need to sand it well, and yes, it needs to be primed. The paint you put on it, will never hold up as well as that factory finish, which looks really nice. Are you absolutely sure, you need to paint it?

Unless you are very experienced painter, or willing to become one, I suggest you work with what exists. If you want a high quality factory type finish, you will need to learn to respirator up and to spray professional grade cabinet coating products rather than homeowner trim paint with brush and roller marks, and stippling.

For a homeowner level project, clean off the oils from being handled. Sand thoroughly. Prime with a bonding primer like Stix. Paint with a high quality urethane enamel like BM Advance or SW Emerald. No box store crapola. Let cure 5 days before install, and treat gently for the first 30 days.

Thank you both…I wish I could keep it as is, but I’m at the end of this bathroom renovation and although the pic doesn’t really show it well it throws off the whole color palet…way too much yellow undertone (the interior designer in me!) I do have SW Emerald paint that I would use and was even considering renting or even purchasing a paint sprayer. I’ve read conflicting reviews on whether it was necessary to prime when using SW Emerald.

A sprayer will give you a smoother/nicer finish if you use it correctly. You have detailing on that vanity that can be a challenge to get nice unless you spray.

Yes all of the cabinet detail was a concern of mine also!

Try changing the color of your bulbs in your lighting fixtures first. Sometimes the yellow tone comes from your light fixtures.

I consider myself a very experienced DIY painter. Based on your original question I think you have 2 choices. 1) Sell it and buy what you want, or 2) have a professional cabinet painter pick up the whole vanity and bring it to her shop.

It’s been installed and cut/fitted for plumbing so it’s not being returned…I’m very confident I can learn anything, as I have in the past, the main reason for my original question was due to the type of paint I purchased (SW Emerald), I should have specified that, because I’ve read several reviews from professionals stating this SW paint doesn’t require primer. Having done DIY painting, would you recommend a certain paint sprayer? I’m also researching those.

Many claim that primer isnt needed, but, for a good strong bonding finish, it does need to be sanded and a good quality (like stix mentioned above)bonding type primer does need to be used. If you dont, you can plan on redoing it in 6 months or so.

This pic may show it a little better in contrast to the other white trim in the room…I have a cabinet door propped in front of the vanity showing the white in wood ideally like… I MAY wait until the countertop is installed first to see if it helps to balance out the color?! Lesson learned to slow down and order samples when ordering online! 🤷‍♀️

I think it’s the pinkish walls that make the combo disturbing. If you repaint the walls a more yellow tone it might be ok. Can we see it without the bathmats?

The walls didn’t show pink until the vanity was installed…

It would be a big endeavor to paint the walls again…they’re 16 ft high on the wall opposite the window…

To spray ANYTHING requires a gallon or two of experimenting. WITH a respirator. You do not want to breathe in aerosolized paint particulates.

I would also change the color of those walls, the color doesnt seem to go well with the floors either. Pick a color for the walls the color of the graining in the floors.

I’ve decided to have the countertop installed first to see if that helps balance things out and make the off-color a little less noticeable…will post new pics in a couple weeks!
