any of you suffer from allodynia?
Comments (5)aprilflower, I thought I might be getting shingles when this first happened because previous episodes had only been on one side of my face or scalp, and only lasted a few days. So after about the 5th day with this burning on my thigh/buttock area I was certain I'd soon break out in shingles there, but it never happened. It originally started out on the entire back of my left leg from heel to buttock. Thankfully within a few days the sensation slowly faded away, starting from my heel and moving up my leg until it reached the area where my thigh connects with my butt. Unfortunately the healing process stopped there so I still have the badly sunburned skin sensation right where my underwear leg elastic touches my skin. Oh well, I guess I should thank my lucky stars the rest of my leg cleared up because I couldn't imagine going 4 months feeling like the entire back of one leg was badly burned! Actually this whole thing has made me feel even more empathetic to those who suffer chronic physical pain daily, on a much worse scale than this. Alisande, my friend suffers from trigeminal neuralgia occasionally, so I know how painful that is. Hers comes randomly though, and she luckily has never had a herpes outbreak. It must be bad to just get over the pain of the neuralgia attack only to know you're about to get cold sores : (...See MoreChild with acid reflux
Comments (10)Hi I am a 14 teen year old teenager that has been struggling with Acid Reflux my entire life. What your describing definitely sounds like acid reflux, don't let anyone tell you differently. A lot of the time I don't want to eat, because your daughter is right it is painful and uncomfortable and sometimes unbearable to live with. I know you don't want her to stop eating but don't force her to eat. If she doesn't eat right away she will. I have found that if my parents tell me to eat something, most of the time it makes me not want to eat something even more. If she does say she is hungry but in pain I have found that cold foods help. I often eat popsicles, little containers of peaches or applesauce that I put in the fridge and sometimes just drinking ice water. It soothes the esophagus an stops the burning. Now let her know that the symptoms wont always be 100% there but most of the time some type of symptom will always be there. Some days you wont feel a thing. Other days it will be awful. Some tricks that I have found help is to elevate the top of her bed on bricks. This keeps her head above her stomach and stop the flow of acid when she sleeps or is laying down. Don't lay down straight away after eating. Try to have her stay in an upright position for an hour after eating. Also I have found that drinking an 8 oz glass of apple juice before bed helps knock down the acid. Also as a girl who is growing and going through the pain of acid reflux, expect that she will have some moody days. It is not fun to go through and sometimes you need your space. Lastly, I know it can get confusing with the many different medication but I would like to tell you to not give up I have been on 15 medications and none of them have worked and now I have found a miracle medicine called Aciphex. It has helped both me and my father, who also suffers from Acid Reflux. I definitely recommend asking your doctor about it. Hope this helps....See MoreChronic ear infection - any ideas for treatment?
Comments (7)She is so cute! Since you said it was a yeast infection, I'm thinking about my old dog who had floppy ears and chronic problems with yeast infections in them. We used OTC miconazole in her ears with pretty decent results. Sometimes we used the human woman yeast infection cream, and sometimes we used the human foot powder- just had to make sure it was miconazole. The foot powder tends to dry things out (if that's needed) and we never had much problem with it caking up in her ears, though we did carefully clean her ears from time to time with doggy ear wash. It sounds like access into the ear is really limited, but I thought I'd mention this and maybe you can ask your vet if trying these products in an option. Abby always seemed to get a lot of very quick relief and comfort whenever we used one of these on her for a yeast ear infection. FWIW, the meds we got at the vet never helped Abby for very long. Time and again we went back to miconazole in one form or another....See Morelooking for: acid reflux (gerd) sufferer willing to share recipe
Comments (9)Another testimony to the fact that since going low carb my DH's GERD has been greatly reduced. But that isn't the solution for everyone. Different foods will trigger different reactions in different people. One of my DH's worst is anything with cooked tomatoes. I do feel for him, but it is really embarrassing to eat a meal in a nice restaurant and then have him deposit it in the gutter just before we get into the car. Not to mention, unappetizing, and a complete waste of money. I don't sound very sympathetic, do I? And who among you has been pulled from a dead sleep by being vomited upon? Sometimes it hits him so quickly that he doesn't have time to even turn his head away. As I age, I also have found that there are certain foods I should avoid. But he just doesn't seem to remember the connection. If he wants it, he eats it, and we both pay the price later. There are lots of medications available that can take care of some of the symptoms, and he takes prilosec, but my vote is for intelligent eating. Sorry if I grossed you out, I guess I needed to vent....See More- 9 months ago
