Comments (16)What is the cultivar after Empire of Desire? Edge of Heaven is lovely. Seems not to be much in commerce. Sherry, I enjoyed hearing about your dogs. The mellowness of senior years is a different stage for us and our pets. I have never known my pets' birthdays; perhaps, you just count the day of adoption. Echo Beach is a good grower and bloomer. Elizabeth Peacock was divided last year. Good year to suffer division blues, since most things were subpar. Pic from 2022. Very saturated. Early Shirley was still floriferous, with good height this year. Existential Avatar had a subpar year. Usually has much higher bud count. Have to trim leaves on this one. Evermore Greatful had some nice blooms in dryness and heat. Habit is a bit more sprawling than I like. Edge of Irrelevance looks promising, but too early to judge plant habit. Electric Ladyland has good height. Every Knee Shall Bow holds its color well. Edward Abbey had rich deep color. Plant habit is not ideal, but only by high standards. Have not seen it anywhere near registered height. Seems that I didn't get a pic of Ethereal Sky Color this year. From a pot in 2022. We shall see. Ebony Pools had fewer splotches than usual last year. About 4.5 inches....See MoreH daylilies 2024
Comments (18)Sherry--Heavenly Hidden Treasure also looks good here. Last season it was a bit on the short side. I like that green throat on Heavenly Breezes. Her Best Bloomers certainly has an intense color in your pic. Nancy--I am glad to see the Hillside cultivars. I see the posts of Mussar on Facebook, where he details all the work that goes into hybridizing, including tilling and weeding along with indoor growing. Heavenly Grave Digger looks interesting, but yes, the name--it really makes me cringe when joined with "heavenly". I'll take some of the Hanson names any day. Heavenly Christmas Cactus is supposed to double half way through the season. Would be interested in seeing a pic of the doubling. David--I like the picture of Have a Heart, and I see it is taller than some Bennetts. I have not seen it on your list of favorites, though. Debra--Hillbilly Heart looks good in your garden, but performance (years ago) was poor here. Hearts that Care is a clear shade--a Holley evergreen, I see. Brad--Highland Pinched Fingers is a nice landscaping cultivar, with taller scapes and eye-catching color. It is in the Urgent Care bed here, but deer were a problem last summer (even with nightly spraying). Maryl--Heartless here looks just like your pic, but I am wondering what it will look like in a clump. Honky Tonk Barbie was too short here to suit me, but probably ideal for a pot. Not much rebloom here, but I think you said that rebloom scapes are taller. Handwriting on the Wall was the best I have seen it. Baffled why a minority of cultivars seemed to like the 2023 winter/spring. Heman is tall and looked quite good last summer. Petit's Half Moon Key actually performed better. Hush Little Baby always attracts enough attention to stay. Heavenly Bombshell, a parent of C Cactus. Heavenly Dragon Fire --a very iridescent shade of orange. Some people automatically dismiss all oranges in a single category. Harper's Bazaar has been short at the estate, with its peculiar challenges (like growing next to bordering boxwood). So I have moved it. I constantly have to roll down umbrellas that someone has unfurled next to the pool. Heartless is a bright color, but plant habit is unknown. Heavenly Dark Matter --earlier color display Heavenly Explosion --more tailored flower but not as vigorous. Heavenly Star Fire --early, large, and tall. Not a fast multiplier here. Heavenly United We Stand got disturbed by the fence painting. Peace with neighbor was more important. Heavenly Tiger Tails is a vigorous earlier bloomer. Recently moved....See MoreJ daylilies 2024
Comments (16)Jubilee Ball has had excellent bud count here. Jazz Me Blues has been a bit slow to establish. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had a beautiful bloom, but like many Smith cultivars here (such as Grandma's Smile), tended to bloom short. JP Moneybags is a reliable earlier bloomer here, which this year had fewer (but still ample) blooms. Joan Derifield, usually a heavy bloomer, had a bad year, but it also got beaten up in the fence painting. Judy's Jewel is indeed a stunner. I seem to like Holley cultivars with their brilliant color, but most don't like this climate (parents not good here). Jubilee Ball. An excellent Bennett here, but lower bud count past summer. Jungle Jack Joiner --a Joiner evergreen that does fine here, though scapes were somewhat shorter. Rice'sJackie Canner, a bit shorter than usual. A richly colored flower. Jane Trimmer, shorter than usual. Korth's Jacob's Ladder has good height Jim's Song makes a bright spot in the early garden, even if flower is not very ruffled. Jordan's Jazz is a large bright flower, but plant habit is still unknown. Jellyroll Morton is such a big reliable plant that it should have won the Stout years ago. Jeweled Tiara Emmerich's Joy Came Down Jan Zoo --not as good as 2022, but Jan Zoo is a colorful, reliable bloomer with good height. Joe Burrow --Tall and photogenic. Richard is very proud of this one. JP Moneybags in 2022....See MoreK daylilies 2024
Comments (11)I got King Crab a while back; am eagerly awaiting its first bloom. Kingdom Without End is not a fast multiplier, but it has been divided once. Kensington Plantation, I see, is out of Victorian Lace. Very interesting. Kansas Kitten is a good performer here. Katherine Caldwell is an earlier bloomer. Not a rapid multiplier. Kiss My Aura looks like a bitone, though it is not registered as such. Around 5.5 inches. Out of Enchanting Esmerelda, but usually better height. The old Killer. Modest bud count. Katherine Marin was not as good as in 2022. Picture from 2022. Good height. Sometimes doubling, which I find less appealing. Kingdom Bound is in my view a superior cultivar in regard to color, bud count, and height. Kingdom Without End after division the previous year Emmerich's King of the Ages, a later bloomer. Moderate increase. Good height. Kansas Kitten in 2022 before division. Kansas City Kicker --a shorter Salter out of Sabine Baur. Color can be quite nice (and cleaner than Sabine), but didn't like 2023. King Kahuna --it is a nice double, though short....See MoreMaryl (Okla. Zone 7a)
